It is a place which particularly promotes reading and writing, as a form of pleasure, for children. Keep them hooked onto, and at the same time, maintain their interest in reading and writing? And how can the parents maintain their progress once their child learns to read? How can we make them lifelong readers? It mainly depends on the age of the child as well as on the type of reader and writer h
e /she is! There are mainly four types of readers:
1. The 'able, but can’t be bothered' reader
2. The 'keen and capable' reader
3. The 'struggling' reader
It is important to recognize that these types of readers are not scientific. They are present so that you can have a better understanding of what type of a reader your child is. It is possible that a child is at a different stage of reading at different time of his/her life. It is not necessary that a child who is struggling with reading, at the moment, will always be a struggler. The Readers R Us program commences three times a week. Each group contains four students, so that every student is given individual attention while catering to their needs. It helps a child and his/her parent understand where the child stands, when it comes to his/her potential in reading and writing. It helps a child decode the words to understand the meaning and analyze what he/she reads. It also allows a child to improve his/her writing skills, which merely include comprehension, creative writings, grammar and spellings. The mini library set up at the centre, containing age appropriate collection of books, will allow them get a feel of a Reader’s World, and will encourage them to pick a book with incentives at the end of the month, and eventually will inculcate their reading habits to transform them into smart readers. Parents will be provided with a weekly feedback, which will allow them to work as a team with their child, and therefore achieve a win-win situation.
