Ever noticed how the sound of a siren changes as it passes by?

That’s the *Doppler Effect*

It’s the change in frequency (or pitch) of a wave when the source and observer are moving relative to each other.

As the source comes closer, sound waves compress, higher observed frequency (pitch)
As it moves away, waves spread out, lower observed frequency (pitch)
