(The Virtues of Jumma/Friday)**

**1. The Best Day of the Week:**
Friday is considered the best day of the week in Islam. It is said that Allah created Adam on Friday, and it is also believed that the Day of Judgment will occur on a Friday.

**2. Special Prayer (Jumma Prayer):**
Muslims gather for a special congregational prayer on Friday, known as Salat al-Jumu'ah. This prayer replaces the regular Zuhr prayer and includes a sermon (Khutbah) that addresses the community on important issues. Attending the Jumma prayer is obligatory for adult male Muslims and highly recommended for women and children.

**3. Forgiveness of Sins:**
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that the sins committed between one Friday and the next are forgiven for those who perform the Jumma prayer with sincerity and devotion. It is an opportunity for Muslims to seek forgiveness and renew their faith.

**4. Increased Rewards:**
Engaging in good deeds on Jumma carries increased rewards. This includes acts such as reciting Surah Al-Kahf, sending blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), making dua (supplication), and giving charity.

**5. Acceptance of Duas:**
There is a special time on Jumma when duas (prayers) are particularly likely to be accepted. While the exact timing is debated, many scholars suggest that it is during the last hour before Maghrib (sunset) or between the two sermons during the Jumma prayer.

**6. Reminder of Brotherhood:**
The congregational nature of Jumma prayer emphasizes the importance of community and brotherhood in Islam. Muslims from all walks of life gather together, fostering a sense of unity and equality.

**7. Increased Spiritual Awareness:**
The Jumma prayer and sermon provide an opportunity for Muslims to increase their spiritual awareness and gain knowledge. The sermon often addresses contemporary issues, offering guidance and wisdom.

**8. Recitation of Surah Al-Kahf:**
It is recommended to recite Surah Al-Kahf on Fridays. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said that those who recite this Surah on Jumma will have a light that will shine from one Friday to the next.

**9. Sunnah Acts:**
There are several Sunnah acts associated with Jumma, including taking a bath (Ghusl), wearing clean clothes, applying perfume, and arriving early for the Jumma prayer. These actions are meant to prepare Muslims for the special day and show respect for the sacredness of Friday.

**10. Reminder of the Hereafter:**
Jumma serves as a weekly reminder of the Hereafter and the Day of Judgment. It encourages Muslims to reflect on their actions and strive for a life that is pleasing to Allah.

There are 12 months in the Islamic calendar – but we tend to know more about some months than we do about others. Everybody knows that we fast in Ramadan, and many know about the sacrifice of Dhul Hijjah. Muharram, however, seems to be a bit less well-known. This sacred month is referred to in Hadith as the month of Allah (SWT), no other month is given such an honour.
