Three children were among five people killed when an Israeli drone strike hit a car and motorcycle in the southern Lebanese town of Bint Jbeil on Sunday, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

Lebanese Speaker of Parliament Nabih Berri said the children and their family held American citizenship, though that detail has not been independently confirmed by U.S. officials.

It has been confirmed the family has relatives and ties in Dearborn, Michigan, where a large Lebanese-American community resides.

The strike, which also left two others wounded, has drawn sharp condemnation from Lebanese leaders. President Joseph Aoun called it a “massacre” and said it violated international agreements.

The attack comes as world leaders gather at the United Nations in New York, where Lebanese officials are urging the international community to step in and pressure Israel to halt its strikes.

At least 21,000 children in have been disabled since October 7, 2023 amid Israel’s genocide in the Palestinian territory, a United Nations committee said Wednesday. Around 40,500 children have suffered “new war-related injuries” in the nearly two years since the beginning of Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza, with more than half of them left disabled, said the UN Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.

Reviewing the situation in the Palestinian territories, it said Israeli evacuation orders during the army’s aggression in Gaza were “often inaccessible” to people with hearing or visual impairments, “rendering evacuation impossible”.

“Reports also described people with disabilities being forced to flee in unsafe and undignified conditions, such as crawling through sand or mud without mobility assistance,” it said.

Meanwhile the committee said Israel’s restrictions on humanitarian aid being brought into the Gaza Strip were disproportionately impacting the disabled. “People with disabilities faced severe disruptions in assistance, leaving many without food, clean water, or sanitation and dependent on others for survival,” it said. The committee said 83 percent of disabled people had lost their assistive devices.

The Voice of Hind Rajab was given a 23-minute standing ovation after its premiere at the star-studded Venice Film Festival on Wednesday.

The new film about five-year-old Hind Rajab who was killed by Israeli forces in Gaza last year left much of the audience and many journalists sobbing as it screened for the first time.

Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania and her cast, all dressed in black, were also in tears as they soaked in applause, cheers and shouts of "Free Palestine!" at the 1,032-seat main festival cinema.

Executive producers Joaquin Phoenix and Rooney Mara were on their feet to congratulate the filmmakers and cast of the movie, as seen in footage shared by The Hollywood Reporter.
