“The Biology of Being”
In every cell, a whisper—
a memory of division,
of one becoming two,
of solitude learning to share.
Mitochondria hum like patient mothers,
passing down the fire of the first spark
that dared to live in the ocean’s dark cradle.
My heart is only an organ, they say—
a muscle folding and unfolding,
obedient to ions and impulses.
But when it stutters at your name,
is that biology, or something older?
Neurons reach for each other
like lovers separated by synaptic seas,
their language—electrical, fleeting, real.
DNA unspools in quiet grace,
its code singing the same refrain:
replicate, remember, remain.
And still, beneath all reasoning,
I feel the pulse of something wordless—
a lifeline stretching across epochs,
binding your atoms to mine.
