On March 1, 2026, the Australian government unexpectedly raised the application fee for its post-study work visa.

This is the third such raise over the course of a year, bringing the cost of application to AUD$4,600.

To place this in context, the fee is now 10x that of Canada, 3x that of New Zealand, and 2x that of the UK. Additionally, Australia's study visa, at AUD$2,000, is also the costliest such visa.

The sector, while supportive of measures designed to ensure integrity in recruitment, has raised concerns that the move will send the wrong signal to prospective students.

Germany remains highly attractive for international students

Around 402,000 international students and doctoral candidates were enrolled at German universities in the 2024/25 winter semester – about 6% more than in the previous year. The majority study engineering and natural sciences, highlighting Germany’s strong reputation in these fields.

At the same time, new data shows that dropout rates among international students are lower than previously assumed and relatively close to those of German students.

🇨🇦 Following the recent announcement that Canada would be halving the number of study permit applications it would accept in 2026, exemptions for master’s and doctoral candidates have been unveiled.

🎓 Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) have issued new guidance stating that study permit applications for doctoral candidates will be expedited. This will also apply to accompanying family members providing they apply at the same time.

Additionally, applicants for both master’s and doctoral programmes at public institutions will be exempt from the cap.

🇺🇸 The policy landscape in the US continues to evolve, with the US Department of Homeland Security proposing a series of policies establishing new limits and restrictions for F-1 and J-1 visa holders.

The most prominent change is the introduction of a fixed term, not to exceed four years plus an additional 30 days following their programme end date.

Employment visa at the German Embassy Islamabad are moving to the Consular Services Portal. This will speed up processes and increases the number of visa.

All waiting lists are now closed and will be deleted.
