Ms. Bushra Sajjad Kakakhel has successfully defended her M.Phil thesis titled
"CURRENT TRENDS IN ANTIBIOTIC RESISTANCE PATTERN AND EVALUATION OF ANTIBIOTICS USE IN TYPHOID FEVER AT TERTIARY CARE HOSPITAL PESHAWAR".

She completed her research work under the supervision of Dr Abuzar Khan, Lecturer, Department of Pharmacy, University of Peshawar.

External examiner was Dr Abdul Wahab, Associate Professor and Chairman, Pharmacy Department, Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) Kohat.

Dr Mohammad Ismail Tajik, Chairman, Department of Pharmacy, University of Peshawar also attended the defence ceremony.

Three M.Phil Scholars Successfully Defend Theses at University of Peshawar’s Department of Psychology

Ms. Memuna Asif has successfully defended her M.Phil thesis titled: “Cyclothymia and Social Media Addiction: The Mediating Role of Emotional Dysregulation”
Ms. Memuna Asif conducted her research under the supervision of Dr. Summiya Ahmad, Department of Psychology, University of Peshawar.

Ms. Maria Khan has successfully defended her M.Phil thesis titled: “Sense of Coherence, Psychological Distress, and Marital Satisfaction among Parents of Children with Disabilities: the Moderating Role of Spiritual Attachment among Muslims”
Ms. Maria Khan conducted her research under the supervision of Dr. Romana Zeb, Department of Psychology, University of Peshawar.

Ms. Sumayya Khan has successfully defended her M.Phil thesis titled: “The Relationship Between Obesity , Self Esteem and Depression: The Mediating Role of Self Regulation Among Young Adults”
Ms. Sumayya Khan conducted her research under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Erum Irshad, Department of Psychology, University of Peshawar.

The external examiner was Dr. Behroz Khan, Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, National University of Modern Languages (NUML), Islamabad.

Seminar on Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ and Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat Held at University of Peshawar

The Department of Arabic, University of Peshawar, in collaboration with the Department of Seerah and Islamic Studies and the Khyber Islamic Culture Society (KICS), University of Peshawar, organized a one-day seminar on “Seerah of the Prophet ﷺ and Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat” on 20 August 2026 (6 Rabi‘ al-Awwal 1448 AH) at the Seminar Hall, Department of Arabic, University of Peshawar.

The seminar was organized as part of the Ten Days of Rehmatul-lil-Aalameen, with the aim of highlighting the noble life, exemplary character, teachings, and universal message of the Holy Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, while also emphasizing the importance of Tahaffuz-e-Namoos-e-Risalat.

The distinguished Chief Guest and Speaker, Professor Dr. Niaz Muhammad, former Dean, Faculty of Islamic Studies, Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, delivered an insightful and thought-provoking lecture on the Seerah of the Holy Prophet ﷺ. He emphasized the responsibility of Muslims, particularly students, teachers, and scholars, to study, understand, and convey the teachings and noble character of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.

A large number of faculty members, scholars, guests, and students participated in the seminar. The participants expressed their profound love and respect for the Holy Prophet ﷺ and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Arabic and its collaborating departments and society for organizing an important academic and religious event.

The seminar concluded with special prayers for the peace, prosperity, and stability of Pakistan and for the unity, peace, and well-being of the Muslim Ummah.

Dr. Ahmad Saeed Jan, Faculty Organizer, Khyber Islamic Culture Society , thanked the distinguished speaker, faculty members, scholars, students, guests, and all participants for their valuable participation and contribution to making the seminar a successful and memorable event.

Professor Qasim Jan Receives Prestigious “China Friendship Award”

Dr. M. Qasim Jan, Emeritus Professor of Geology at the University of Peshawar and HEC Distinguished National Professor, has been honoured with the prestigious China Friendship Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to scientific collaboration and strengthening academic ties between Pakistan and China.

Dr. Qasim Jan is an internationally renowned scientist and academician and has made significant contributions to the field of geology through extensive research, teaching, scientific cooperation and academic leadership. He is an Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and a Fellow of the World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), the Islamic World Academy of Sciences and the Pakistan Academy of Sciences. He was also honoured with the Chinese Academy of Sciences Award for International Scientific Cooperation in 2024.

Dr. Qasim Jan obtained his BSc (Hons) from the University of Peshawar, MS from Oregon and PhD from London. His research has focused extensively on the geology of the NW Himalaya, Nagarparkar and Balochistan, particularly crust-building processes through mineralogical, petrological and tectonic studies. He has authored and edited hundreds of research papers and books and has delivered invited lectures and undertaken academic visits to institutions across Asia, Africa, Australia, Europe and the United States.

He has also held several prestigious national and international positions, including Vice Chancellor of the University of Peshawar, Vice Chancellor of Sarhad University and Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad, Provincial Interim Minister of Education, President of the Pakistan Academy of Sciences, Founding Vice President of the Alliance of International Science Organizations (ANSO), Secretary General of the Association of Academies and Societies of Sciences in Asia, and President of the International Association of Natural Resources.

His remarkable services to science and education have earned him numerous national and international distinctions. These include the Distinguished Scientist of the Year awards, the ISESCO Science Prize, and honorary Doctor of Science degrees from King’s College London and the University of Leicester, Hilal-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan Civil Award in 2010; Sitara-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan Civil Award in 1999; and Tamgha-i-Imtiaz, Pakistan Civil Award in 1994. He was also awarded the President’s Medal for Excellence in Teaching (Izaz-i-Fazeelat) in 1993.

The University of Peshawar takes immense pride in this prestigious international recognition of one of its distinguished scholars and former Vice Chancellors. The China Friendship Award is a testament to Dr. Qasim Jan’s lifelong dedication to scientific excellence, academic leadership and the promotion of Pakistan-China cooperation in science and higher education.

The University of Peshawar extends its heartfelt congratulations to Dr. M. Qasim Jan on receiving this prestigious honour and wishes him continued success in his academic and scientific endeavours.

Ms. Iqra Shakeel, MPhil scholar in the Department of Food and Nutrition Sciences, College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar has successfully defended her MPhil thesis titled “The Treatment Effects of Sesame and Pumpkin Seeds on Iron Deficient Children: A Study of Peshawar City.”

The research was conducted under the supervision of Dr. Zahin Anjum and evaluated by Dr. Mahpara Safdar, Department of Nutrition and Health Sciences, Allama Iqbal Open University, Islamabad, as external examiner.

Ms. Iqra confidently presented her findings and successfully responded to the examiner’s questions.

The defense was held under the chairmanship of Prof. Dr. Syeda Kaniz Fatima Haider, Acting Principal, College of Home Economics, University of Peshawar.
