Mr. Asif Mahmoud has successfully defended his M.Phil thesis titled, "Hydrocarbon Source Rocks Analysis and Reservoir Characterization of the Lower Cretaceous Rocks Southern Indus Basin, Pakistan" under the supervision of Dr.Sajjad Ahmed, Associate Professor and Mr. M. Irfan Faiz, Assistant Professor.

The examiner was Dr. Liaqat Ali, Director National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar.

Mr. Baitullah Khattak has successfully defended his M.Phil thesis titled, "ROLE OF TRANSPRESSION IN THE STRUCTURAL DEFORMATION OF KOHAT FOLD BELT AND ITS RELATIONSHIP WITH REGIONAL AND LOCAL TECTONICS" under the supervision of Dr.Gohar Rehman.

The examiner was Professor Dr. Sajjad Ahmed, DG, Geologic Survey of Pakistan.

Mr. Saddam Hussain has successfully defended his M.Phil thesis titled, “Petrographic and Physio-Mechanical Properties of Fine Aggregates from Selective Rivers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan”, under the supervision of Dr.Muhamammad Naveed Anjum.

Mr. Rafiq Ali Khan has successfully defended his PhD thesis today at the Department of Geology, University of Peshawar under the supervision of Dr. Sajjad Ahmed and Dr. Asghar Ali.
Research Title: The hydrocarbon Reservoir Characterization of Carbonate Rocks, A case study of Paleocene Lockhart Formation from Upper Indus Basin, North, Pakistan

We are pleased to announce that Mr. Gohar Rehman has successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation on 30th September, 2022 under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Sajjad Ahmed, and Prof. Dr. Fayaz Ali.

External examiners were Dr. Sajjad Khan, Deputy Director, Geological Survey of Pakistan (GSP) and Dr. Syed Ali Turab, Associate Professor, National Centre of Excellence in Geology, University of Peshawar.

A seminar on the topic of “Health and Safety Awareness” was conducted on May 12, 2022 in the main Seminar Hall, Department of Geology, University of Peshawar. MR. Ansar Mahmood, Health Safety and Environment (HSE) corporate manager, SALCEF, shared his knowledge and expertise regarding health, safety & environment. He also talked about job market and opportunities in HSE particularly for Geology students.
An interactive question answer session was followed after the Mr. Ansar's talk. Shield distribution was arranged at the end of the session.

Ms. Sadaf Fida Khan has successfully defended her MS thesis under the supervision of Mr. Muhammed Irfan Faiz, Assistant Professor, department of Geology, University of Peshawar.

Her external examiner was Mr. Taquem – ul-Haq Ali, lecturer, Department of Geology, Bacha Khan University, Charsada.

The first meeting of Geo Comm was conducted on February 09, 2022 at the Department of Geology, University of Peshawar. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Sajjad Ahmad, Chairman Departement of Geology. Dr. Suleman Khan, incharge of Geo Comm affairs was also present at the occasion. The Chairman, Department of Geology welcomed all the participants in the meeting and said that the Geo Comm is reactivated for exploring the hidden talents of the geology students. He said that under the umbrella of Geo Comm various curricular and extra curricular activities e.g. seminars, quiz and debate competitions, welcome and fair well parties, sport weeks etc. will be arranged. In the meeting an acting cabinet for the year 2022-23 was finalised amongst the interested students from all classes with due representation of female students. The Chairman, Department of Geology congratulated the new cabinet with the instructions to keep the Geo Comm apolitical, transparent, neutral, and productive in the best interests of the students and department. The cabinet decided to conduct a debate competition in English, Urdu, and Pashto languages amongst all students of the department in first instance. The following topics were approved for the debate.
