The harvesting is being carried out through combine-harvester with the active participation of scientists, technical staff, and field personnel to ensure efficiency, genetic purity, and maintenance of quality seed standards. The activity reflects the institute’s continued commitment to strengthening quality wheat seed production and supporting sustainable agricultural development.

Meet Fazal Wahab — Director of the Cereal Crops Research Institute and a Proud Alumnus of the Department of Horticulture, UAP (Batch 1992–1996).

Fazal Wahab is a distinguished agricultural leader currently serving as the Director of the Cereal Crops Research Institute (CCRI) in Pirsabak, Nowshera. A proud graduate of our Department of Horticulture (Batch 1992–1996), Fazal’s journey is one of both academic excellence and inspiring leadership.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Fazal Wahab was a prominent student leader during his time at the university, known for his voice, vision, and dedication to his peers. His transition from a passionate student leader on campus to a key director in the provincial agricultural sector perfectly embodies the leadership potential we strive to nurture at UAP. We are honored to spotlight his career and his lasting impact on our institution's legacy.

CCRI Pirsabak Featured on PTV Program "Sheen Watan Zma Watan” in collaboration with the Directorate of Outreach Agri research KP

Cereal Crops Research Institute (CCRI) Pirsabak, Nowshera was showcased on PTV through the program Sheen Watan Zma Watan, highlighting its contributions to wheat research and development.

Director CCRI, Fazli Wahab, PRO Wheat Dr. Amjad Ali, along with wheat scientists, shared their perspectives on advanced wheat lines, ongoing scientific work, and approaches focused on boosting yield potential and strengthening food security.

The telecast underscores CCRI’s dedication to promoting agricultural progress through innovation and research-driven solutions.

Fazli Wahab sb, Director CCRI Pirsabak, made a visit to monitor the Minor Cereals trials, including oat, barley, durum wheat, and triticale. He was accompanied by Dr. Amjad Ali, PRO (Wheat), and Dr. Ibn Amin Khalil, Farm Manager.

Dr. Asim, Senior Research Officer (Minor Cereals), briefed them on crop condition, maturity, and harvesting preparations. The Director appreciated the team’s efforts and directed that harvesting be carried out timely with proper handling to maintain seed purity and data integrity. He reiterated the role of Minor Cereals in crop diversification and nutritional security.

Wheat Selection Day 2026 was successfully inaugurated by Dr. Muhammad Bakhtiar Khan, Secretary Agriculture on 9th April 2026, marking a significant milestone in the development and evaluation of high-yielding and climate-resilient wheat genotypes.

The event was graced by the presence of Mr. Qaiser Alam (Senior CPO) and Dr. M. A. Rauf, Director General, Agriculture Research KP. Participation from international partners was represented by Dr. Sajid Ali, Country Representative, CIMMYT Pakistan, along with Dr. Ansaar Ahmad, CIMMYT Researcher.

The Director, CCRI Pirsabak, Mr. Fazli Wahab, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests and highlighted the institute’s pivotal role in advancing wheat research, varietal development, and agricultural innovation in the province.

A shield distribution ceremony was held to acknowledge the valuable contributions of scientists, collaborators, and stakeholders involved in the wheat breeding program.

In his remarks, the Secretary Agriculture appreciated the dedicated efforts of CCRI scientists in strengthening wheat & Maize research and reaffirmed his commitment to addressing the key challenges faced by the agricultural research system.

Representatives from PBRR, FSC&RD, and NARC, along with scientists from the KP research system and the private sector, actively participated in the selection process. The event served as an effective platform for technical evaluation, knowledge exchange, and strategic planning to enhance sustainable wheat production and ensure food security.
