The Department of English hosted a vibrant event titled "Variation of English Accents" organized by Dr. Shazia Kousar, Assistant Professor, Department of English and Ms. Sumbal Rani.
The event served as a creative culmination of the students' socio-phonetic studies, focusing on the diverse phonetic and phonological landscapes of the English language across the globe.
The core of the event was the screening of original documentaries produced by the students of BS English Linguistics & Literature (3rd Semester). These projects explored a wide range of accents.
The documentaries were based on detailed observations on vowel shifts, rhoticity, and intonation patterns unique to specific regions.
A primary goal of the event was to appreciate and validate the hard work of the students. Mr. Shakeel Ahmad, and Ms Kinza Sajid from English department also appreciated the hard work of the students and emphasized that the documentary format allowed the students to step beyond traditional rote learning, encouraging them to engage in fieldwork, audio-visual evidence, and linguistic analysis bridging the gap between theoretical linguistics and the real-world evolution of the English language. Their dedication to capturing the 'soul' of these accents was evident in every documentary.
Mr Nasar Iqbal, Incharge Department of English appreciated the faculty members for instrumental guidance and students for their enthusiastic engagement in this activity.
