The Institute of Kashmir Studies was established in 1986 as a Research Institute in The University of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Muzaffarabad.

Objectives of Institute of Kashmir Studies;
The main objective of this institute is to enable students to elevate the highest seat of learning. To analyze, debate and re-evaluate multi dimensional aspect of Kashmir, its cultural, political, intellectual and spiritual heritage. To promote and enhance research activities. To organize conferences and seminars on current issues relating to different social and political aspects.
