Life in the Fast Lane!

Although I do not have anything particularly earth-shattering to write about , as an ordinary man, and thankfully without any paranoia , the job of writing can still be quite a tough nut to crack. Intellectual honesty keeps you on your toes, making you rethink every word before putting it on here , lest it turn out to be mere concoction or nothing more than a word picked out of a dictionary.
Being a small fish in a very big sea hardly encourages me to write grand pronouncements. I do, however, enjoy writing stories in which other characters take center stage, while I quietly move the plot along from behind the curtain.
These beautiful lines by Iftikhar Arif Sahib have always struck a chord with me. Every word stands firmly on its own, yet each word joins hands with the others to create a larger, collective meaning. And that, to my mind, is what great poetry is all about. Only a master craftsman can walk such a fine line and handle words this slippery without losing his grip.
The vacation is coming to an end, and tomorrow, God willing, begins another journey. At our age, however, the goal seems to be less about chasing dreams and more about figuring out how to survive with dignity , smile!
What really gets under my skin is watching young students drift aimlessly, moving through life like careless whispers. Perhaps that phrase hits home because of the famous English song from years ago. They know tomorrow is packed with ifs, buts, and uncertainties, yet they still seem determined to turn a blind eye and bury their heads in the sand.
Why does this attitude take hold? Where does it come from? These are questions worth pondering , not only for me, but for you as well.

The Funny Time Warp!

It was one of those winter afternoons when school was about to let out, and Musa was sitting quietly on a bench. The thought of capturing that moment suddenly crossed my mind, so I took a picture.
Back then, he was just a tiny third-grader. Not long afterward, he moved to Lahore, completed his early schooling at LGS, and eventually made his way to Aitchison College. In the meantime, we stayed in touch off and on, though our conversations were few and far between.
Other than noticing that his voice was changing, I could never have imagined just how much he would grow , both literally and figuratively. Looking back now, that little boy on the bench seems like a distant memory.
Yesterday, when Musa Bhachhar walked into the club where I was sitting, I had to make a bit of an effort to recognize him. He had grown tall, calm, and quiet. During the conversation he told that he has done remarkably well in his O-Level exams, earning several A’s. I was absolutely thrilled to hear him talk so thoughtfully about different issues and, more importantly, about his plans for the future and his career.Since he plays basketball with great enthusiasm, we did talk about the game, and I mentioned the occasion when I had the opportunity to shake hands with the great Kareem Abdul-Jabbar( L A Lakers) in Saudi Arabia. At the time, he was there with the U.S. Marines and played an exhibition match against the Saudi national team.
Time really does fly. Sometimes, an old photograph feels like a little time machine, taking you straight back to a moment you had almost forgotten. One day, you are looking at a tiny boy sitting on a bench; before you know it, he is all grown up and ready to take on the world.
Funny how life can pull the wool over our eyes and then, when we least expect it, remind us just how quickly the years have slipped through our fingers!
