Alumni Cluster Meet-Up, Institute of Business and Leadership, AWKUM
The Alumni Cluster Meet-Up at the Institute of Business and Leadership (IBL), part of Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan, which took place on February 18, 2026, was a strategic networking event aimed at re-engaging former students and building a stronger, professionally active alumni network.
The meet up focused on outreach to a large cohort of alumni targeting contact with 1,000 graduates to mobilize opportunities that benefit both current students and alumni themselves.
The core purpose of this meet-up was to:
• Reconnect with a broad alumni base aiming to reach and register 1,000 alumni graduates from IBL and related faculties.
• Facilitate professional pathways by enhancing internship, employment, and scholarship opportunities for both current students and recent alumni.
• Create a support ecosystem encouraging alumni to mentor, recruit, or sponsor rising talent, strengthening industry-academic linkages.
• Expand the alumni network platform helping graduates stay connected via AWKUM’s official alumni association.

Business idea competition
The Business Idea Competition was organized by the Business Incubation Centre (BIC) in collaboration with the Institute of Business and Leadership (IBL) at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan. The competition took place on February 12, 2026, at the university’s Garden Campus, bringing together student innovators from various programs to present their business concepts aimed at real-world problems and opportunities.
The main goals of the competition were to:
• Promote entrepreneurial thinking and innovation among students.
• Encourage creative problem-solving by translating ideas into viable business concepts.
• Build a startup culture within the university community.
• Connect academic learning with market needs and industry expectations.
A panel of judges, evaluated the ideas. Criteria included innovation, feasibility, and commercial viability.

Aspire Youth Leadership Program Team Meets AWKUM Leadership

The Aspire Youth Leadership Program team held a meeting with the Director Business Incubation Center (BIC) & Director IBL, Dr. Ihtisham Khan, and Internship Coordinator Mr.Ismail at Abdul Wali Khan University Mardan.

Youth Leader (Mardan Region) Syed Najmul Hassan Gillani and University Leader Saba Mumtaz presented upcoming opportunities, including internships, scholarships, and leadership programs. The proposed MoU with BIC was also discussed.

The Director BIC appreciated the students’ efforts and expressed willingness to collaborate in future initiatives.

On February 18, 2026, IBL students were awarded certificates for completing a two-month internship at the National Bank of Pakistan. The Director IBL, Dr. Ihtisham, along with Coordinator Mr. Ismail and Branch Manager, University Campus Branch, Mr. Kashan Awan, presented the certificates and commended the interns for their practical skills and dedication. Dr. Ihtisham also expressed gratitude to Dr. Shah Raza, EVP, Regional Head, Regional Office Mardan, for his support in endorsing and facilitating the program. The ceremony highlighted the students’ achievements across various NBP branches, marking a significant milestone in their professional journey.

The Department of Accounting & Finance, IBL, AWKUM, is pleased to announce that Mr. Farman Ullah, a PhD scholar, has successfully defended his PhD thesis titled:

"Determinants of Risk Management in Emerging Islamic Markets: A Comparative Study.

Mr. Farman Ullah completed his research under the supervision of Dr. Muhammad Ibrahim Khan and Dr. Shehzad Khan.

The external examiners were Prof. Dr. Muhammad Arif Khattak, Bahria University, Islamabad, and Dr. Yasir Bin Tariq Associate Professor, Comsats University Abbottabad.

With this achievement, IBL proudly marks the successful completion of its 48th PhD.

Congratulations to Mr. Farman Ullah and the entire supervisory team on this academic milestone.

The Smart Group of Companies, comprising Smart Zone Marketing Pvt. Ltd., conducted a visit to IBL Awkum with the objective of offering employment and internship opportunities to students. The visit commenced with a comprehensive company presentation, followed by a written assessment and personal interviews for candidates who met the requisite criteria.
