26th Amendment (on Judicial Reforms) signed into law on October 21st, 2024, empowered PM to choose CJ from among the three names forwarded by Judicial Commission Pakistan, against the previous practice of selecting senior most SC judge directly by the president.

Further, JCP will also evaluate performance of the judges.

This will give administration a say in judiciary. It will enhance check and balance on one hand and will erode judicial independence on the other.
