Assalam alaykum,

In the above verse, Allah reminds us of the innumerable favors He has bestowed upon us all. We further understand from Quranic commentaries that this verse teaches us that we are unable to enumerate even one of Allah’s blessings upon us. Recognizing the vast blessings of Allah motivates us to show gratitude, which has a relationship with receiving even more divine gifts, as the Quran teaches us, "If you are grateful, surely I will increase you." [Quran 14:7]

In reflecting on these verses, we are profoundly grateful at Al-Maqasid for the immense blessings that Allah has granted us as individuals, families, a community, and as an institution. We are thankful first and foremost for the blessing of believing in Allah the Exalted and the Prophet Muhammad (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We are grateful for our teachers who are able to convey beneficial knowledge that encompasses all aspects of life with sound chains of transmission to the Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). We are blessed to have a nurturing environment that facilitates both learning and acting upon knowledge acquired, and encourages us to strive to have good character in our dealings with our Lord and each other.

Our Prophet (may the peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) also taught us that part of gratitude is to thank people. We recognize that the aforementioned blessings, by Allah’s grace, were made possible through your gracious and continual support, whether through your supplications, your efforts spent volunteering, or your financial contributions.
