Get some practice writing your opinion by answering this IELTS Writing Task 2 question.

Remember, if the Writing task says 'Discuss both views', your Writing band score will be affected if you only talk about one of the views.

The best way to prepare for the IELTS Speaking test is to get plenty of practice. Remember, practice makes perfect!

Here is a sample Part 2 cue card to use.

Give yourself 1 minute to prepare and then try to talk for 2 minutes about the topic. Record yourself and then listen back. What could you improve on?

Read the question!

Understanding what the question asks you to do is crucial for achieving a good score. Always read the question thoroughly and cover all the points you're asked to write about.

If you don’t answer the question you can’t get over a Band 5 for Task Response.

It is that simple and it is probably the number one thing stopping people from getting a high score.

Answering the question properly simply means reading the question carefully and then doing what it asks you to do.

Spend time reading the question carefully and think about exactly what the question is asking you to do.

A good way to think about this is to use keywords (general topic), micro-keywords (specific sub-topic) and instructions words (what we must do) when thinking about your answer.
