شمس الدين ابڙو لاڙڪاڻي جو هڪ اهم قانوندان، جنهن پنهنجي وقت ۾ لاڙڪاڻي جي سڀني وڏن وڪيلن تي ڌاڪو ڄمائي رکيو. هي صاحب علامه علي خان ابڙي جو وڏو پٽ هو. هو 1916ع ۾ ميهڙ لڳ ڳوٺ سانگي ۾ ڄائو ۽ پنهنجي والد جي نگرانيءَ ۾ تعليم ورتائين، بعد ۾ هو جوناڳڙهه ۾ پڙهيو، جتي هن جي استادن سندس ذهانت سبب کيس سالن تائين ياد رکيو.
لاڙڪاڻي ۾ ان وقت جا وڏا وڪيل خاص ڪري خانبهادر غلام رسول ڪيهر (جيڪو پوءِ سنڌ اسيمبليءَ جو اسپيڪر ٿيو) سندس گهڻي عزت ڪندو هو. نوجوان وڪيل ذوالفقار علي ڀٽو کيس ’استاد‘ چئي مخاطب ٿيندو هو. ڀٽو صاحب جڏهن ايوب خان جي ڪابينه ۾ هو تڏهن هن ابڙي صاحب کي سفير ٿيڻ جي پيشڪش ڪئي، جيڪا هن قبول نه ڪئي. هن صاحب پاڪستان ٺهڻ کان اڳ وڪالت شروع ڪئي ۽ ڪامياب فوجداري وڪيل هو. سندس آڏي پڇا جو انداز مشهور هو. اڪثر وڪيل عدالتن کان خاص مهلت وٺي سندس آڏي پڇا ٻڌڻ ويندا هئا. طبيعت ۾ نهٺو ۽ توڪل پسند هو. روزانو شام جو، سندس اوطاق نما آفيس ۾ شهر جا اهم ترين وڪيل سياسي حالتن تي خيالن جي ڏي وٺ ڪرڻ لاءِ جمع ٿيندا هئا. انهن ڪچهرين ۾ نظام الدين ميمڻ، ڪامريڊ سوڀو گيانچنداڻي، عبدالوحيد ڪٽپر، دوست محمد هڪڙو ۽ ٻيا صاحب شامل هوندا هئا. سندس هڪ مقدمو ’پٽيل ڪيس‘ جي نالي سان مشهور آهي. جنهن ۾ هن بنيادي انساني حقن واري عام لتاڙ خلاف پاڪستان ۾ پهريون اهم ڪيس کٽيو هو. هن صاحب جي حياتيءَ جا واقعا سندس ننڍي ڀاءُ جمال ابڙي جي آتم ڪٿائن ۾ ڏنل آهن. هن 29 آگسٽ 1963ع تي لاڙڪاڻي ۾ 47 سالن جي عمر ۾ وفات ڪئي. کيس قائم شاهه بخاري واري مقام ۾ سندس والد جي ڀر ۾ جاءِ ڏني وئي. لاڙڪاڻي جو مشهور شمس اسڪول سندس نالي پٺيان ان ئي جاءِ ۾ قائم آهي، جيڪو علي خان ابڙي جو گهر هو.
