China has achieved a major leap in data transmission after successfully moving 72 terabytes of data in just 1.6 hours, a task that would normally take around 699 days using the traditional internet. This breakthrough was demonstrated through Chinaβs newly commissioned national network infrastructure known as the China Environment for Network Innovation, or CENI.
In a live test, data generated by the FAST radio telescope in Guizhou was sent to a university in central China at record speed. Designed as a programmable and deterministic future network, CENI spans 40 cities and more than 55,000 kilometers of optical links, enabling faster research in AI, advanced mobile networks, and large-scale scientific computing.
