Lights, movement, and hands-on learning at SMC!

SMC 7th semester student Usama Javed conducted an engaging Cinematography Workshop: Gimbal Operation for 1st Semester TFT students, giving them practical exposure to camera movement, stabilization techniques, and cinematic storytelling through motion.

Through interactive demonstrations and hands-on practice, students explored how professional gimbal operation can enhance visual storytelling and create dynamic cinematic shots. The workshop encouraged students to experiment, collaborate, and learn directly through production-based experience. ✨

Art, empathy, and storytelling came together during the visit by TFT 1st Semester students to Olomopolo Studio.

Students experienced a powerful installation centered around a single rose made from thousands of hand-stitched fabric roses, each representing a child lost in Gaza, carrying their name and age as an act of remembrance and humanity.

Conceptualized by Nuria Rafique-Iqbal through Labour & Love and Bargain Basement Sale, the project beautifully combined artistic practice with humanitarian purpose, while also supporting the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund (PCRF) and Bioniks Welfare Foundation for child amputees.

The visit gave students an opportunity to witness how art can serve as a medium for reflection, resistance, empathy, and social impact beyond traditional storytelling. ✨
