Mother Teresa, Abdul Sattar Edhi and Martin Luther King are figures to be revered, yet children are never taught to follow them as role models. For that we have Steve Jobs, Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates.
Juggling through a multitude of chores most humans spend an entire lifetime fortifying THEMSELVES one way or the other. In choosing the less trodden path and helping out OTHERS, we transcend our humanity.

The Importance of Book Reading
Nowadays, with smart phones, tablets and iPads, children hardly ever take time to pick up a book and read. Any reading is limited exclusively to course books. This is a sad state of affairs and needs to be changed because reading books has several benefits:
-> It exposes the mind to different cultures, backgrounds and experiences. A 12 year old seeing life through the eyes of an adult will be much more mature than his peers.
-> Being exposed to such a wealth of ideas leads to more depth of thought and offers new perspectives to see the world.
-> Reading can help stimulate creative juices and develop a more creative mind.
-> Wrapping oneself in bed with a warm cup of hot chocolate and a decent book is a great form of therapy
-> Books are a rich source of vocabulary and extensive reading can improve grammar and sentence structure subconsciously!
With these benefits in mind you should cultivate a habit of book reading in not only yourself but your little ones as well!

Is Intelligence related to Grades?
Simply put, intelligence is the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skill. There are numerous electricians, artists etc who may not have had a formal education but are still very skilled in their respective fields. There are examples of geniuses and entrepreneurs like Einstein or Mark Zuckerberg who did not do too well in class but are instantly recognizable names.
On the other hand there is the argument that if the standard education and grading system is redundant, then what benchmark should be put in place for 'intelligence'? Setting examinations and judging a student's capabilities on how he scores may not be a perfect yardstick. However, it goes a long way in determining a majority of the smarter pupils.
