Technical & vocational education and training (also known as TVET) prepares the youth for jobs that are based on manual or practical activities mainly related to a specific trade, occupation, or vocation. In a broader context TVET directly concerns with the labour, finance and economics, because it is about providing the necessary skills for well-functioning, modern economies. In other words, TVET
is central to economic growth and development. Owing to the increasing skills demand by the industry both at the national & international level there has been a greater emphasis on the need of education and training systems to respond to changing labour market requirements. The big challenge is to make TVET system more responsive to emerging labour market requirements. According to the national demographic data, almost 60% of Pakistan’s population is below the age of 25 years and requires education, training and skills conforming to internationally acceptable standards. While this poses a huge challenge it also offers enormous opportunities to raise capable workforce to support livelihood of millions of households. A system that imparts quality TVET and offers qualifications which are internationally recognised is, therefore, very much required. ETSD, as an exclusive marketing representative (EMR) of a UK-based qualifications awarding body – London Chamber of Commerce & Industry (LCCI)’ International qualifications, strives to fill in the skills gap in Pakistan, while raising the human resource capital of the country through its collaborative efforts with many local & foreign partners of international repute. ETSD aims at introducing internationally recognized qualifications in Pakistan in order to develop productive human resource capability in a variety of trades and skills. It thus, will augment the government’s avowed efforts at raising national skill levels, reducing widespread unemployment, supporting national industry and services sector by providing quality human resource and earning precious foreign exchange by exporting trained manpower of internationally recognized standards. ETSD has a mission to work with local and global partners in order to provide appropriate knowledge and skills to alleviate poverty and develop a more sustainable economy.
