Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) is responsible to promote the quality culture of the Lahore College for Women University (LCWU).

The work of the QEC in the first step is towards the internationalization and institutionalization of quality enhancement. Its success will depend upon the sense of belonging and participation it can inculcate in all the constituents of the University. It is an evaluative, suggestive and assessment unit of the University. It has the potential to become a vehicle for ushering the quality by working out intervention strategies to remove deficiencies and enhance quality.

FUNCTIONS OF QEC

1. The Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC) is to be headed by a Director reporting directly to Vice Chancellor. He is to be the correspondent with the outside bodies.

2. QEC is responsible for promoting public confidence that the quality and standards of the award of degrees are enhanced and safeguarded.

3. QEC is responsible for the review of quality standards and the quality of teaching and learning in each subject area.

4. QEC is responsible for the review of academic affiliations with other institutions in terms of effective management of standards and quality of programs.

5. QEC is responsible for defining clear and explicit standards as points of reference to the reviews to be carried out. It should also help the employees to know as to what they could expect from candidates.

6. QEC is responsible to develop qualifications framework by setting out the attributes and abilities that can be expected from the holder of a qualification, i.e. Bachelors, Bachelor with Honors, Master’s, M. Phil., Doctoral.

7. QEC is responsible to develop program specifications. These are standard set of information clarifying what knowledge, understanding, skills and other attributes a student will have developed on successfully completing a specific program.

8. QEC is responsible to develop quality assurance processes and methods of evaluation to affirm that the quality of provision and the standard of awards are being maintained and to foster curriculum, subject and staff development, together with research and other scholarly activities.

9. QEC is responsible to ensure that the university's quality assurance procedures are designed to fit in with the arrangements in place nationally for maintaining and improving the quality of Higher Education.

10. QEC is responsible to develop procedures for the following:
a). Approval of new programs
b). Annual monitoring and evaluation including program
monitoring, faculty monitoring, and students perception.
c). Departmental review
e). Student feedback
f). Employer feedback
g). Quality assurance of Master's, M.Phil and Ph.D. degree Programs
h). Subject review
i). Institutional assessment
j). Program specifications
k). Qualification framework

Quality Enhancement Cell conducted a workshop on "Self Assessment Procedures" and the Key note Speaker was Prof. Dr. Aamir Ijaz, Director QEC, University of the Punjab. Prof. Dr. Sabiha Mansoor, Vice Chancellor of LCWU as Chief Guest chaired the session.

INSTITUTIONAL PERFORMANCE EVALUATION

Lahore College for Women University (LCWU) opened its horizon for Institutional Performance Evaluation (IPE), Program of Higher Education Commission (HEC). Director Quality Enhancement Cell (QEC), LCWU had taken up the charge of exercising IPE activities in all academic and administrative departments of the university. The IPE review panel comprised of five members as representative of HEC; Mr. Shoaib Ahmad, Project Director, Quality Assurance Agency, HEC, Islamabad; Prof. Dr. Aamir Ijaz, Director QEC, University of Punjab, Lahore; Brig. (R) Salim Ahmed Khan SI (M), Director QEC, Riphah International University, Islamabad; Dr. Sohaila Javed, Director QEC, Comsats Institute of Information Technology, Islamabad and Mr. Ijaz Ahmed, Deputy Director QEC, University of Punjab visited the LCWU on 3rd and 4th December 2013. A University Portfolio Report (UPR) based on eight standards of IPE, standard operating procedures and statistical data of academic and administrative bodies were compiled.

A meeting of need assessment for quality assurance had been conducted by the Quality Enhancement Cell on 12th December, 2013. The objective of which was to highlight the departmental strategic action plan for the operationalization of vision 2020 in terms of need assessment based on projected increase of students and faculty development.
