The ongoing extermination of the Palestinian people and the bombing of Lebanon should not be blamed on Israel alone. It is America that has been waging wars across the world since they dropped the atomic bombs in Japan, and the present crimes against humanity and genocide are American crimes through the instrumentalization of Israel. Appealing to international law alone is not helpful as its foundational acts were meant to prevent American officials from being punished for the great crimes of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The relation between America and Israel remains essentially that of antisemitism and it is grounded in the “Aryan doctrine”. From the outline of this extermination campaign taking place in West Asia, its expansion into all its neighbourhoods to create lands without people can be seen. This calls for a collective preparation for their own survival by the third world countries, who should move beyond Intifada (resistance) to Inquilab (revolution).

This poem graced the early frontal pages of The Pakhtun Magazine set up by the revolutionaries of KP in 1928. It was probably written for a poetic competition that was held annunally from 1921 at the Azad school Utmanzai. Hundreds of thousands of people would attend and along side poetry there would be plays and earlier in the day open discussion of the finances and affairs of the Asad Schools. There were 134 in KP and they aimed to 'create revolutionaries' in the words of Ghani Khan who was a student. Decolonial history and theory had a big moment in Pakhtun lands in this period and again today.

The capitalist NATO countries, Saudi and Gulf Kingdom sponsored art world in South-Asia will continue to highjack 'decolonialism' for its museums and kingdom 'washing', my friends and many others happily play along and take their art and curation - for some its necessary for survive for others its a habit to serve power. Yet, what is forgotten is that decolonial project was and is mainly about the 'base' - we got to change the economic and political relations and that the art - while not secondary - was at its best twined with this project. I hope to talk about this. Do join. We also need to creating space outside the 'ART WORLD'. This is an almost impossible task given the reach of the art market and its twinning with art education but that is the task at hand. The group Surkh Sawera who are hosting this event are trying to just that. Join them.

NOAM CHOMSKY is alive and his ideas are alive for sure. He has supported many progressive causes I asked his help in. He supported our open letter for the release of Baba Jan, for the release of Baloch missing people, and was always happy to give interviews and let us publish his work. He really is a friend of ALL the oppressed (outside his office, people from every nationality, cause were camped for a meeting and he would give time to all). He was particularly well informed about Pakistan (though he was informed about everything) because of his love friendship with Eqbal Ahmad. He spoke at our Eqbal Ahmad memorial lecture at Cafe Café Bol, among so much else. Here is a Link to some of his contributions to progressive causes in Pakistan. We need to celebrate him while he is with us and always after.
