University of Ulster 21/05/2014

The University of Ulster (previously shortened to UU; Irish: Ollscoil Uladh, Ulster Scots: Universitie o Ulstèr or Varsitie o Ulster is a multi-campus, co-educational university located in Northern Ireland. It is the second largest university in Ireland, after the federal National University of Ireland. The university was established in 1968 as the New University of Ulster and can trace its roots back to 1845 when Magee College was established in Derry and 1849, when the School of Art and Design was inaugurated in Belfast.

The university incorporated its four campuses in 1984 under the University of Ulster banner; these are located in Belfast, Coleraine (site of the administrative headquarters), Magee College in Derry, and Jordanstown. A fifth distance learning campus, Campus One, delivers online programmes; mainly at graduate level.

Ulster is a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities, the European University Association, Universities Ireland and Universities UK.

The university has one of the highest further study and/or employment rates in the UK, with 95% of graduates being in work or undertaking further study six months after they have completed their degree. In the 2008 RAE 86% of research activity at the university was rated as being of international quality, with 20% being classified as world-leading. Of particular note are the submissions within Biomedical Sciences, the Institute of Nursing and Health Research and Celtic Studies which were all ranked within the top three UK universities.

Teesside University has its main campus in Middlesbrough in North East England. It has 21,830 students, according to the 2012/13 HESA student record. As well as the main university in central Middlesbrough, it also has a campus in Darlington named Teesside University Darlington.

The University consists of six schools.

The University of Sunderland is a university located in Sunderland in the North East of England. The university has 17,101 students, including 2,695 international students from 118 countries.

Sunderland was one of six universities to be short-listed for 'University of the Year' in the Times Higher Education Supplement Awards 2012. It was also highlighted for its 'Outstanding Student Experience' in the 2010 Times Higher Education awards.

Plymouth University 21/05/2014

Plymouth University is a public university in the South West of England, with over 28,600 students and is 10th largest in the United Kingdom by total number of students (including the Open University). It has almost 2,900 staff making it one of the largest employers in the south west. The main campus is in the Devon city of Plymouth, but the university has campuses and affiliated colleges all over South West England.

Whilst the University has been known as Plymouth University since June 2011 as a result of a rebrand, the formal name and legal title of the university remains "University of Plymouth".

University of Northampton 21/05/2014

The University of Northampton is a university in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England. It was formed in 1999 by the amalgamation of a number of training colleges and gained full university status as The University of Northampton in 2005.

It is associated with the Million+ grouping of universities.

The university has two sites: Park Campus at Kingsthorpe, a northern suburb, and Avenue Campus just north of the town centre and opposite a large open park known as the Racecourse.

Avenue Campus was from 1924 the site of a college of technology that became part of the university.

The university has various types of halls of residence in its two campuses, with just over 1,600 rooms. Most first year students live in halls and few second or third years do so. Many of them live in the Abington area, north-west of the town centre.

The university also offers accommodation at Belinda Ferrison house in the Mounts area of the town centre. In April 2012 Northampton Borough Council granted planning permission for a 464-room hall of residence on the site of the St John’s Surface Car Park in the town centre. It is envisaged that this will mainly accommodate international and post-graduate students when it opens in 2014.

The university has just under 14,000 students spread across its two campuses. It is divided into six schools: Arts; Science and Technology (formerly Applied Sciences); Education; Health; Business and Social Sciences.

Middlesex University 21/05/2014

The Middlesex University, located in Middlesex, London, is a truly international university with two campuses overseas, in Dubai and Mauritius. It received university status in 1992 and is home to more than 22,000 students, of which around 5,000 are international, from over 170 countries. The University has four campuses, main campus being in Hendon. Middlesex University was one of the first UK universities to deliver British higher education overseas.

Middlesex University is comprised of four schools including School of Arts and Education, Business School, School of Engineering & Information Sciences, and School of Health and Social Sciences. Apart from the schools, there is Institute for Work Based Learning which works with organizations to provide specifically tailor education to suit their employees’ needs.
• Middlesex University has won the ‘Queen’s Anniversary Prize’ thrice and has also won a ‘Queen’s Award for Enterprise’ for its international work.
• Middlesex University is the first university in the UK to offer courses accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing, its Business School has been rated as a “centre of excellence” by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).

All the four university campuses have state-of-the-art facilities and services, including modern libraries, internet access, IT equipment, language centres and media facilities. At its flagship Hendon campus, the University has invested heavily on developing modern resource centre, libraries, and state-of-the-art teaching facilities and laboratories at the Hatchcroft science building. Sports and leisure facilities include sports halls, indoor tennis courts, swimming pools, fitness rooms, astroturf pitches, local sports clubs, and playing fields. Middlesex Students’ Union organizes many entertainment events and supports a number of clubs and societies. ‘The Forum’ – the new student centre at the Hendon campus – hosts regular comedy nights, live bands and weekly club nights. There are a number of student support services ranging from international orientation programme to professional counselling services helping students to acclimatize to university life.

Liverpool John Moores University 21/05/2014

Liverpool John Moores University is a new university located in the city of Liverpool, England. The university is named after John Moores and was previously called Liverpool Mechanics' School of Arts and later Liverpool Polytechnic before gaining university status in 1992, thus becoming Liverpool John Moores University.

The university is a member of the University Alliance, a mission group of British universities established in 2007. It is also a member of the European University Association and the North West Universities Association. At present, LJMU serves more than 24,000 students comprising 20,410 undergraduate students and 4,270 postgraduate students, making it the largest university in Liverpool by student population – as well as the twentieth largest in the United Kingdom.

The University of Lincoln is a public university in the city of Lincoln, England. The university has origins tracing back to 1861 and after gaining university status in 1992, was known as the University of Humberside until 1996 and the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside until 2001, when it adopted its present name.

Lincoln is one of two universities in the city, alongside Bishop Grosseteste University. Lincoln's main campus is adjacent to Brayford Pool, the site of urban regeneration in the city since the 1990s; further campuses are located in Riseholme and Holbeach.

The Independent described the university as "the best thing to happen to Lincoln since the Romans". Lincoln has rapidly moved up in the university rankings, having risen 60 places in 4 years. The Sunday Times newspaper, responsible for The Times Good University Guide, has described the university's progression as the most dramatic transformation of a university in recent times. In 2012, the university ranked in the top 50 of The Guardian University Guide for the first time.

The University of Leicester is a public research university based in Leicester, England. The main campus is south of the city center, adjacent to Victoria Park.

The university has established itself as a leading research-led university and has been named University of the Year of 2008 by the Times Higher Education. The university has consistently ranked amongst the top 15 universities in the United Kingdom by the Times Good University Guide and The Guardian; it has a vision of becoming an established top ten UK university by 2015. The 2012 QS World University Rankings also placed Leicester 8th in the UK for research citations.

The University is most famous for the invention of genetic fingerprinting and for the discovery of the remains of King Richard III.
