At Rice Research Institute, Kala Shah Kaku (RRI, KSK), modern technologies are strengthening our commitment to delivering high-quality rice research and reliable quality evaluation.
The Kett Near Infrared (NIR) Auto Analyzer is a game-changer in rice quality evaluation, providing rapid, accurate, and non-destructive analysis of important quality parameters such as moisture, protein, and amylose content within minutes. Using advanced Near Infrared (NIR) technology, it eliminates the need for chemicals, complex sample preparation, and time-consuming laboratory procedures, making it ideal for routine testing in rice research institutes and quality control laboratories. Its speed, precision, and ease of operation enable efficient screening of large numbers of rice samples, supporting varietal evaluation, quality assurance, and data-driven decision-making across the rice value chain.
Procedure: The analyzer is switched on and allowed to complete its initialization. Instrument performance is verified by running the standard (reference sample) before sample analysis. A representative 30 g milled rice sample is weighed and transferred into the analyzer cassette, ensuring the surface is leveled evenly without compressing the grains. The cassette is then inserted into the sample chamber, the appropriate rice calibration program is selected, and the sample identification details are entered. The analysis is initiated, during which the instrument automatically measures moisture, protein, and amylose content using Near Infrared (NIR) technology. The results are displayed within a few minutes and are recorded or printed for documentation. After sample analysis, the standard (reference sample for basmati/non basmati) is run again, if required by the laboratory quality control protocol, to verify instrument accuracy. Finally, the cassette and sample chamber are cleaned, and the instrument is switched off and covered to protect it from dust after completion of the analysis.
