The seminar titled âBeyond the Weeping Walls: The Evolution of Womenâs Voices in the Theatre of Warâ highlighted the underrepresented yet powerful role of women in times of conflict, particularly in how their voices have evolved from being silenced to becoming central narratives in theatre and literature. Organized by the Department of English at LCW , and conducted by Prof. Dr. Fatima Syeda, Chairperson Department of English at FCCU, the event brought students and faculty to explore how war impacts women and how women, in turn, reshape war narratives.
Dr Syeda talked on how theatre and literature become mediums through which womenâs trauma, resilience, and agency are foregrounded. And how from ancient epics to modern drama, womenâs voices have shifted from being âweeping wallsâ to becoming âspeaking wallsâ.
Dr Syeda traced the trajectory of Women voices from Hecuba in ancient Troy to modern playwrights and activists who have continuously reshaped these narratives. The voices of women transform from lamentation to resistance, proving that even in destruction, womenâs resilience becomes a foundation for empowerment and memory.
