Each year, the Government of Korea recognizes outstanding individuals and organizations that contribute to the promotion of Korean language and culture around the world. In a special ceremony marking the 576th anniversary of the Korean language, seven distinguished individuals and organizations were honored by the Honorable Prime Minister of Korea.
Among the recipients was Dr. Atif Faraz, a Pakistani-Korean scholar, who received the Presidential Commendation in recognition of his two decades of dedicated service in promoting Korean language and culture in Pakistan and beyond. Dr. Faraz has been instrumental in establishing the Korean Department and the Islamabad King Sejong Institute at the National University of Modern Languages (NUML) in Islamabad, Pakistan. His leadership has been vital in the effective operation and development of these institutions.
In addition to his academic contributions, Dr. Faraz has played a significant role in organizing a variety of cultural events aimed at raising awareness and appreciation of Korean culture. His unwavering commitment has significantly strengthened cultural ties between Korea and Pakistan.
This prestigious recognition by the Korean government is a moment of immense pride for the Pakistani community in Korea and around the world. Dr. Atif Faraz currently serves as an Assistant Professor at NUML and as the Director of the Islamabad King Sejong Institute (IKSI). His nomination for the award was put forward by the King Sejong Institute Foundation (KSIF).
The award ceremony was graced by several dignitaries, including His Excellency Mr. Nabeel Munir, the Ambassador of Pakistan to Korea, who attended to mark this proud occasion for Pakistan.
