SDSB hosted the second session in its AI for Faculty & Research series, "Beyond the Chatbot," on 13 June 2026. Led by Mohammad Tariq Hussain, a LUMS alumnus and senior AI practitioner with over 15 years in machine learning and generative AI, the full day workshop was organised for faculty and PhD students.

It took participants from idea to deployed application: building a working app using simple language instructions, connecting it to a live database, and publishing it for others to use. Sessions also covered creating AI chatbots that remember and act on collected data, and understanding the real limits and costs of no-code tools.

The day closed with a discussion on responsible AI and the development of institutional AI guidelines.

What does it mean to lead when AI can reason?

On 9th June, SDSB welcomed Dr. Miguel Sousa Lobo, Associate Professor of Decision Sciences at INSEAD, for a thought-provoking session on the evolving frontier of artificial intelligence and what it demands of leaders today.

Dr. Lobo traced the journey from rule-based systems to today's reasoning models: AI that can work through multi-step problems, revise its conclusions, and increasingly mirror human standards of argument and inference.

For leaders, this is not a distant technological shift. It is already reshaping how decisions are made, how organisations compete, and which business models will endure.

The session offered an opportunity to reflect on the implications of AI for decision-making, strategy, and leadership in an increasingly complex business environment.
