"In today’s competitive world, the need is not to lower the quality of knowledge but to raise it. Certain CSS coaching academies, especially in Lahore and Islamabad, have been inciting CSS candidates into standing up against the FPSC and malign it to make it compromise English standards both in written and viva voce. A campaign is underway to compel the FPSC to conduct the viva voce– the stage that comes after a candidate passes the written examination– in both Urdu and English. This is a step towards discontinuing English from the viva voce initially and then from the written examination eventually" (an excerpt).

"Looking at faults in the preparation of optional subjects, one can identify four main problem areas.
First, with the change of syllabus and the optional subject-selection scheme in 2016, the choice of combination for optional subjects shrank...Second, many CSS candidates presume that if an optional subject scored highly last year, it would also score likewise next year, whether or not the candidate is prepared in the subject...Third, most CSS candidates hope for a replication of questions asked previously from optional subjects, though the same is their attitude towards compulsory papers...Fourth, most CSS candidates delude themselves by gauging their performance through mock written tests held by CSS coaching academies."
