Do you often read an SAT passage and think, “I understand the passage, but which answer is actually correct?” 🤯
One of the biggest mistakes students make in SAT Reading is choosing an answer that sounds good instead of choosing the answer that is directly supported by the passage.
In this video, I explained one of the most important SAT Reading question types: MAIN IDEA questions. 🎯
I break down exactly how to approach these questions step by step:
📌 First, understand the central purpose of the passage.
Don’t focus on one interesting detail. Ask yourself: What is the author mainly trying to communicate?
📌 Look at the entire passage, not just one sentence.
The correct answer should represent the overall message of the text.
📌 Eliminate answers that are too narrow.
If an option only discusses one specific example or detail, it is probably not the main idea.
📌 Watch out for answers that are too broad or exaggerated.
SAT answer choices often include words that make an option sound important, but if the passage doesn’t fully support it, eliminate it.
📌 Use evidence from the passage to confirm your answer.
The right answer should be supported by the passage as a whole—not by your assumptions or outside knowledge.
💡 Remember: SAT Reading is not about choosing the answer that sounds the smartest. It is about finding the answer that the text actually supports.
