8 August —A Black Day for the Legal Fraternity

Ten years ago today, the legal community of Pakistan suffered one of its darkest tragedies. A su***de bomber struck the Emergency Ward of Quetta’s Civil Hospital, where lawyers had gathered to mourn the assassination of Advocate Bilal Anwar Kasi, President of the Balochistan Bar Association, earlier that day.

More than 70 members of the legal fraternity lost their lives, while over 130 were injured. Among the fallen were senior advocates, young lawyers, promising practitioners, and members of a profession devoted to the pursuit of justice and the rule of law.

A decade later, the pain of that day remains, but so does the legacy of those who were taken from us. Their lives were dedicated to defending rights, upholding justice, and giving a voice to the voiceless. They were silenced by violence, but the principles they stood for cannot be silenced.

Legal Brains, Punjab University Law College, solemnly remembers the martyrs of the Quetta Civil Hospital tragedy and honours their sacrifices.

As students and future members of the legal profession, we pledge to carry their memory forward and remain steadfast in our commitment to justice, rule of law, and the dignity of human life.

Their lives may have been taken, but their cause lives on.
Their memory is our responsibility.

Legal Brains strongly condemns the brutal and cowardly attack on our respected senior member and Advocate of the Lahore High Court, Mr. Mubarak Zeb.

Violence against members of the legal fraternity is an attack not only on an individual but also on the rule of law and the administration of justice. Such acts of intimidation have no place in a civilized society and must not go unpunished.

We stand in complete solidarity with advocate Mubarak Zeb and pray for his swift and full recovery. We also express our unwavering support to his family, colleagues, and well-wishers during this difficult time.

We urge the concerned authorities to conduct a fair, impartial, and transparent inquiry into this heinous incident, ensure that all those responsible are brought to justice without delay, and take effective measures to safeguard the security of legal professionals.

Our first cabinet meeting for the session 2026–2027 was successfully held today, followed by the cake cutting ceremony of the newly appointed cabinet of Legal Brains, PULC.

We were truly honored by the presence of our respected seniors and former cabinet members, whose valuable suggestions, guidance, and encouraging words enlightened us and inspired us for the responsibilities ahead. Their experience and support will undoubtedly help us grow and serve more effectively.
