Debating Society NUML

Inter-Departmental, Tri-Lingual Poetry Competition was organized by the English Department of National University of Modern Languages, Lahore Campus. Students from English, Media and Communication Studies and Management Sciences took part in Reciting famous Literary Poems by English, Urdu and Punjabi poets. Moreover, students also created their own poetical pieces, which they presented in front of our worthy Regional Director, honorable judges and respected faculty members, which was much appreciated. The ceremony ended with a prize distribution amongst the winners.

Weekly Asian Parliamentary Debates Camp (English) on 12th September 2019.

Abdur Rehman Sudais is a prominent debater with expertise in parliamentary genre of debtes. He has been awarded with several trophies on behalf of his participation in debating competitions country wide and is currently serving as the President of the Debating Society NUML Lahore where he sees to the task of providing mentorship and leadership to learning debaters.
He has managed and hosted several events from university convocations to many other student political events and is enthusiastic for a zealous future in entrepreneurship, leadership and mentorship in various sectors of the Society.
Here's the recent article by him :

As a child, he was taught to dream and build his castles of glass in his dreams. As gradually he grew up, his parents and other people started reshaping his dreams. Tradationally and successfully they changed the direction of his dreams and unfortunately, now he's not living to satisfy his dreams, to fulfill his aims and goals, but to fulfill and live up to the wishes of his parents, family, friends and society!
In the end they all will call him a failure if he'll remain same as today he is. But if he takes a revolutionary step against these odds of his society, they may initially resist to his bold and progressive perspective about himself. However, in the end they all will brand him a hero.
But who the hell he is to be called as a hero!

Literature is Aziz Tahir's passion and he is currently fulfilling his dream by doing bachelor in English Literature. He loves the ebb and flow of poetry and one day hopes to be a successful poet.
Aziz would be described as a little shy and dreamer, and one of the humblest person you will meet. We're honored to have Mr. Aziz as our secretary of Literary Wing at Debating Society.

*A star and the pearl*
Let it be a dream that we met
And be not the end like a sunset
Let it be a dream that we dreamed
After all the bright scars we gleaned

Let our love be the warmth of stars
That we can feel even we are apart
Let our worlds collide so we stay
Where we are in midst of love's way

Yesterday was the sight of pain
And today feels like a placid rain
After the storms and the suffering
A way ahead and a new beginning

Let it be the will of heavens
Let it be the grace of oceans
Let it be a star and the pearl
Even in the shadows of this world

"طلحہ جٹ ایک اچھے مزاحیہ مقرر ہیں اور اپنی ظریفانہ طبعیت اور ترکی بہ ترکی جواب دینے کی خصوصیت کے سبب مجلسِ مباحثہ میں ایک اہم مقام رکھتے ہیں اور ادبی شعبہ کے سربراہ ہیں۔ طلحہ کیسا لکھتے ہیں اس بارے میں آپ انکی تحریر پڑھ کر اندازہ لگا سکتے ہیں۔۔"
جہیز جیسی لعنت کے بارے میں طلحہ صاحب لکھتے ہیں کہ :
چند روز قبل ایک شادی پر جانے کا اتفاق ہوا، پہلے دو دن
تو ٹھیک سے گزر گئے لیکن تیسرے روز میں نے دلہن کے بھائی کو چھت پر چہل قدمی کرتے ہوئے دیکھا، جو کافی پریشان لگ رہا تھا۔
اسکو پریشان دیکھ کر میں اسکے پاس گیا اور پریشانی کی وجہ پوچھی، پہلے تو اس نے مجھے کچھ بتانے سے صاف انکار کردیا۔ لیکن میرے شدید اصرار کے بعد اسنے مجھے بتایا کہ جسکی شادی ہو رہے ہے وہ اسکی اکلوتی بہن ہے اور والد کے انتقال کے بعد انہوں نے اسے بہت لاڈ پیار سے پالا پوسہ ہے۔

اکلوتی بہن کی شادی میں کوئی کمی نہ رہ جائے اسلیے بہت مشکل سے روپیوں کا بندوبست کیا لڑکے والوں کی ہر ڈیمانڈ پوری کی۔ لیکن اب اچانک دولہے نے ایک عدد موٹر سائیکل کا مطالبہ کر دیا ہے جبکہ اسکے پاس اتنے پیسے نہیں ہیں۔

خیر جیسے تیسے کرکے ہم نے موٹر سائیکل کا بندوست کیا اور وہ تقریب ہنسی خوشی مکمل ہوئی۔

گھر آکر میں نے اس پر تحقیق کی تو مجھے معلوم ہوا کہ
شادی کے بعد جو سامان لڑکی والے لڑکے کو دیتے ہیں اسے جہیز کہتے ہیں مزید یہ بھی معلوم ہوا کہ یہ ہندوؤں کی، خالصتاً ہندوؤں کی رسم ہے بلکہ مزہبی عقیدہ ہے ۔

ہندو مذہب میں عورت کو وراثت میں حصہ نہیں دیا جاتا اس وجہ سے وہ جہیز دے کر اسکی کمی کو پورا کرنے کی کوشش کرتے ہیں، ہندو تو یہ کام اپنے مذہبی عقیدے کی وجہ سے کرتے ہیں لیکن بدقسمتی سے مسلمان بھی اس ناسور کا اتنا ہی شکار ہیں ، جتنا ہندو، جبکہ اسلام میں اس چیز کا تصور بھی نہیں ۔

ہمارے معاشرے میں لڑکی کے پیدا ہونے سے لے کر قبر کی مٹی تک جن مراحل سے لڑکی اور اسکے والدین کو گزرنا پڑتا ہے ، ہم سب بخوبی واقف ہیں​۔ جس عمر میں لڑکی ٹھیک سے چل نہیں سکتی،بول نہیں سکتی،اس عمر سے اسکے لیے "جہیز" کا بندوبست کرنا شروع کیا جاتا ہے اور پھر یہ سلسلہ ساری عمر پورے آب و تاب کے ساتھ جاری رہتا ہے۔

اتنا سب کچھ کرنے کے باوجود جہیز کے بھکاری طرح طرح کے رسم و رواج کا سہارا لے کر کچھ نہ کچھ مانگتے رہتےہیں، اور اگر اگر کسی وجہ سے انکا مطلوبہ مطالبہ پورا نہ ہو تو نوبت طلاق تک آجاتی ہے۔ لڑکی کی پیدائش جو بلاشبہ اسلام اور سرکار دو جہاں کی تعلیمات کی روشنی میں خوش بختی کی علامت ہے ، کو ہم نے اپنے ہاتھوں سے بد بختی میں بدل دیا ہے۔

جہیز کا یہ مرض لاعلاج بیماری کی طرح پھیل رہا ہے اور اس نے ہمارے معاشرے میں اپنی جڑیں بہت گہری کر لی ہیں۔ اس ناسور سے جان چھڑانے کا صرف ایک ہی طریقہ ہے،اور وہ یہ ہے کہ آپ اپنے آپ سے شروعات کریں۔ اگر آپ مرد ہیں یا کسی لڑکے کے باپ تو فوری طور پر عہد کرلیں کہ کسی صورت بھی جہیز نہیں لیں گے۔

حماد یونس ایم اے انگریزی کے طالب علم ہیں اور گزشتہ سال مجلسِ مباحث کے لٹریری ونگ کے انچارج تھے۔ مسکراتے اور دوسروں کو مسکراتا رکھنے کی جستجو کرتے حماد بھاٸی، اردو اور انگریزی دونوں زبانوں میں خوب تحریر کرتے ہیں اور شاعری بھی کرتے ہیں۔ حماد بھاٸی کی تازہ غزل پیشِ خدمت ہے۔ پڑھیے اور داد دیجیے۔۔

نیا اِک زخم ہم کھائے ہوئے ہیں
اِسی خاطِر تو کُملائے ہُوئے ہیں

ہمارے عمر کٹتی جا رہی ہے
سو ہم بھی شام کے سائے ہوئے ہیں

ہمیں مالِ غنیمت ہی سمَجھ لو
تمہارے ہاتھ ہم آئے ہوئے ہیں

دِلِ کمبخت نے مروا دِیا ہے
تمہارے​ کِس لِیے ہائے ، ہوئے ہیں!!

کفن جچتا نہ تھا ، سو اِس لیے ہم
لِباسِ زیست پہنائے ہُوئے ہیں

حسینیؓ سر تو نیزے پر ڈٹا ہے
سپاہِ شام گھبرائے ہوئے ہیں

حماد ، اِس شہر سے دِل اُٹھ گیا ہے
سو اب مجنوں کے ہمسائے ہوئے ہیں
