The woodpecker begins its preparations for winter in an amazing way, as it searches for a dead tree that suits its needs.

After carefully selecting it, it begins to peck small holes with extreme precision to store acorns. This work is never random; each hole is designed with precise calculation.

If the hole is too large, other birds may be able to steal the acorns, and if it is too small, the acorns may crack and spoil. The woodpecker continues this diligent work throughout the summer, until it completes its task with great care. By the end of the season, a single tree trunk can contain approximately 50,000 acorns!

This huge stockpile ensures that the bird has enough food to face the cold of winter with confidence and comfort.

Calceolaria also called lady's purse. It has a shallow root system and grow tight to the ground, up to 5 inches (13 cm) tall. The unique flowers almost look like little penguins marching over the rocks.
