Maths word problems are not about just finding the answer. They’re about understanding the problem.
In my Maths classes, I encourage students to slow down, understand what the question is asking, identify the important information, and then choose the right operation.
For this word problem, we used addition and multiplication, breaking the question into simple steps. Where needed, I use drawings and visual explanations to help children actually see what the numbers mean.
My approach:
✔️ Understand before calculating
✔️ Break complex problems into manageable steps
✔️ Use visual models when helpful
✔️ Explain why we choose an operation
✔️ Build independent problem-solving skills
Because the goal isn't just to get today's answer right, it's to help children become confident thinkers who can solve the next problem on their own. ❤️
