The primary responsibility of the Office of Career Services (OCS)/(OCLP) at UMT is to enhance the professional skills portfolio for both students and alumni by organizing a wide range of career related activities such as workshops, individual advisory services, comprehensive job posting, on-campus recruitment facilities, opportunities to meet industry professionals at activities specifically desig
ned for the purpose, etc. The staff within the office is dedicated to help all aspects of career planning and development, and works closely with faculty, staff, and employers to ensure that the requirements for both the industrial and corporate sector and those of the students are being met. The OCS also helps students identify the career that best suits their interests and skills. The OCS encourage students to take personal responsibility to utilize its services to develop their career oriented skills from freshman through senior year and beyond. Moreover, it teaches students the skills necessary to formulate successful job search strategies and facilitate career progression. OCS is dedicated to meet student needs and is open to provision of individualizing services. It is a comprehensive unit that assists students in a variety of ways throughout their stay at the university and even after graduation. Career Counselors are available to provide counseling and assistance regarding career development to students, and alumni in accordance with the University's mission of providing a caring and nurturing environment. The commitment to serve potential employers in particular and participants in general Inshaallah, will continue with zeal and vigor. In short, office of career services also serves as the pathway for employers to recruit UMT students. Core Functions:
Job Placements (fresh graduates and alumni):
Primarily responsibility is to place both fresh and experienced graduates (alumni) in the job market for employment and internship. The average salary range that the market is offering to our fresh graduates is 20k โ 30k. The Office of Career Services has brought top companies of the country on its panel. These companies ask for resumes through the Office Of Career Services to meet their recruitment needs. UMT alumni are being sent job alerts through a separate alumni portal which has provided them an ideal opportunity to stay connected with their alma mater and also enabled UMT to capitalize on their resources in the job market for faster and better placements. The Career and Placement Center intends to target 12000 alumni for these purposes. Promoting UMT Brand Name:
UMT publications such as the periodical newsletter is disseminated among top management of the corporate sector to promote awareness of the wide range of activities at UMT and also to build up its image. Personality Development & Training Workshops:
The corporate attitude has to be inculcated into the minds of fresh graduates and alumni as well. This is done by organizing personality development and training workshops tailored to their professional advancement requirements. Industry personnel and successful alumni are invited to the campus for sharing their views/experiences. Such invitations are capitalized by the OCS management for obtaining industry feedback regarding UMT graduates and the latest employment trends. Career Counseling & Advice:
Providing career counseling is a very important function of the Career and Placement Center as it enables graduating students to set their future goals. They become more career focused and better prepared for employment through appropriate questioning and interrogation techniques. Alumni are also encouraged to make contact during counseling hours to discuss their professional issues. Mock Interviews:
Both emerging and expanding companies from across the industrial world are encouraged to conduct their preliminary interview sessions at the UMT campus. Such sessions enable students to gain insight into their strengths and recognize their weak areas that need to be built upon from an employerโs perspective. Mock interviews also give them hands-on experience in conducting themselves during an interview before facing the real life interviews of the tough job market. At the same time, such sessions enables HR officials meet their recruitment needs in a cost effective manner. Job Notifications:
UMT students, proudly referred to as participants, are notified about available jobs through the notice board in the campus, UMT website, alumni website and SMS. The SMS medium is usually resorted to when the employer is running short of time and needs immediate response. Job Fairs:
Job fairs are increasingly being used by employers for hiring purposes. Company representatives are gathered in an assigned arena that has several booths. These representatives give out their leaflets and brochures to incoming students and receive hard copies of their CVs or guide them towards the proper channels of CV submission in addition to giving out information regarding all available positions. If possible, preliminary interviews are also conducted on the spot. Job Facilitation Fair:
Consultancy firms outsourced by recruiting companies are invited to fill their data banks with studentsโ CVs. These job leads are sent on regular basis to the students and alumni of UMT through email. These job leads are collected from social media like face book, LinkedIn and newspaper advertisements and by contacting different recruiting agents. These job leads had been very beneficial to our students as students receive calls and have got hired through the job leads. If any students wants to receive these job leads. Resume Writing:
Resume writing is one of the significant services of OCS for UMT students, graduates and alumni. In resume writing students are facilitated to develop goods resumes by providing sample resume and other relevant document which are helpful in developing effective resume. For resume writing student can get an appointment for individual/group counseling sessions at OCS. Workshop sessions for developing resumes are conducted with the students of the passing out semester of different programs. Resume Book/CV Directories:
Resume Book is one of the major contributions of OCS for the graduating students of different programs in UMT. These resume books are published on yearly basis. This activity is in practice since 2011. So far 4 resume books have been published. First Resume Book was published in 2011, Second was published in 2012 and 3rd and 4th one are published in 2013. The 1000 hard copies of these resume books are sent through courier to HR Heads, Recruitment Managers of different organization in the corporate sector every year. The 3,000 softcopies of resume books are sent t o senior executives in the corporate world. The students whose resumes are published in these resumes books receive calls for interview even without applying in these organizations. Keeping in view significance of these resume books, OCS has planned to continue to this activity in future as well. Our On Going Objectives:
