The Department of Archaeology, University of the Punjab, Lahore, hosted an enlightening lecture on _“Rise and Fall of the Indus Valley Civilization”_ delivered by renowned archaeologist *Dr. Muhammad Rafique Mughal*.
The session opened with a warm welcome to the audience by *Dr. Ifqut Shaheen*, Incharge of the Department, who thanked Dr. Mughal for sharing his invaluable insights and expertise on one of the world’s earliest and most fascinating urban civilizations.
The event was coordinated by *Dr. Nafees Ahmad* who welcomed the faculty members, students, and guests.
Dr. Mughal’s talk covered the urban planning, trade networks, cultural achievements, and the eventual decline of the Indus Valley Civilization.
The *question-answer session* that followed was highly interactive, interesting, and thought-provoking, with students and faculty engaging deeply on key debates surrounding the civilization’s legacy.
It was a memorable academic gathering that greatly enriched the learning experience for all participants..

*(Lahore, May 11th, 2026)*
The Department of Archaeology, University of the Punjab, Lahore organized a Training Workshop on *“Advanced 3D Documentation & Digital Preservation of Archaeological Artifacts Using 3DVOK MT Handheld Scanner.”* This practical training session was designed for the faculty and students to know the application of modern technologies in archaeology. *Mr. Saad Ahmed Khan* , CEO, Quantum Universal and his team (Mr. Zubair and Mr. Amir) introduced students regarding modern 3D scanning technologies for the digital preservation, documentation, and analysis of archaeological artifacts. Session featured the 3DVOK MT Handheld 3D Scanner, a high-precision scanning system capable of capturing both accurate geometry and high-resolution texture/color data. Through this, students got insight into how modern handheld 3D scanning technologies can support archaeological research, conservation, restoration, digital archiving, and museum documentation workflows.
The Worthy Vice Chancellor, *Prof. Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah* (S.I. , T.I.) and *Prof. Dr. Mahboob Hussain* , Dean Faculty of Arts and Humanities appreciated the department’s efforts in enhancing the capabilities of Faulty and Students in Digital Archaeology.
*Dr. Ifqut Shaheen* , Incharge, Department of Archaeology, extended her gratitude to the instructor for this productive session and acknowledged faculty, staff and students for their presence and taking interest in the training workshop. *Dr. Nafees Ahmad* (Assistant Professor) moderated the sessions.
The training workshop was concluded with a short ceremony of distribution of shields and a group photo.

World Heritage Day

(April, 2026)

The Mighty Land of Pakistan is the hub of great cultural diversity comprised of Indus Valley Civilization, Buddhist, Jain, Hindu, Sikh and Islamic Heritage.

To acknowledge this great cultural diversity, Department of Archaeology, University of the Punjab, as per the vision of the Worthy Vice Chancellor Dr. Muhammad Ali Shah, celebrated the World Heritage Day and arranged a walk for its promotion and community awareness. Prof. Dr. Mahboob Hussain (Dean, Faculty of Arts and Humanities), Dr. Muhammad Nasir (Professor of Persian Department), Dr. Ifqut Shaheen (Incharge, Department of Archaeology) and faculty members Dr. Nafees Ahmad , Dr. Samia Tahir, Dr. Muhammad Azeem, Mr. Mohsin Ismail, Staff and Students of BS and M.Phil Archaeology participated in the heritage walk.

"ضروری اطلاع برائے طلبہ و طالبات"

1. موجودہ شدید موسمی حالات، جن میں شدید بارشیں اور ملک بھر میں سیلابی صورتحال شامل ہے، کے پیشِ نظر یونیورسٹی انتظامیہ مسلسل صورتحال پر نظر رکھے ہوئے ہے۔ ہمارے طلبہ، اساتذہ اور عملے کی حفاظت اور بہبود سب سے زیادہ اہمیت رکھتی ہے۔

2. اس کے مطابق، یہ اطلاع دی جاتی ہے کہ 1 ستمبر تا 7 ستمبر 2025 کو "زیرو ویک" قرار دیا گیا ہے۔ اس دوران تمام سربراہانِ شعبہ، اساتذہ اور عملہ داخلہ امور کو مکمل کریں گے، تعارفی سرگرمیوں میں حصہ لیں گے اور طلبہ کو کیمپس میں خوش آمدید کہیں گے۔ ہاسٹل الاٹمنٹ کا عمل جاری رہے گا اور طلبہ اس وقت کو اپنی کلاسز یا آئندہ امتحانات کی تیاری کے لیے استعمال کر سکیں گے۔

3. تمام کلاسز اور امتحانات باقاعدہ طور پر 8 ستمبر 2025 سے شروع ہوں گے، ملک میں غیر معمولی سیلابی صورتحال کو مدِنظر رکھتے ہوئے۔

4. براہ کرم نوٹ کریں کہ پرووائس چانسلر / چیئرمین ایڈمیشن کمیٹی کی جانب سے جاری کردہ اکیڈمک کیلنڈر متاثر نہیں ہوگا۔ اگر اضافی کلاسز درکار ہوں تو انہیں آن لائن یا ہفتہ کے دن منعقد کیا جا سکتا ہے۔
