Pharmacy Department at Comsats Lahore

COMSATS University (CUI) Lahore Campus signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Benessere Health Company (BHC), a pharmaceutical industry in Multan. The agreement will lead to the collaborative research on pharmaceutical and nutraceutical products and their large-scale production. The MoU is a step forward towards knowledge economy expected to benefit the society with sustainable industrial growth and innovative local products, says a press release.

CUI a public sector varsity of the Ministry of Science and Technology, has an active research culture and is ranked among the top Pakistani universities on all major international academic rankings including the Time Higher Education Ranking and QS World University Rankings, UK.

CUI and BHC joined hands together through a formal agreement signing held at the Lahore campus on Thursday, 9th July. The agreement is expected to produce medicines and commercialize. Dr. Ghulam Murtaza, Associate Professor, Head of Department of Pharmacy, CUI Lahore is the principal researcher of the project.

Dr. Tahir Naeem, Director CUI Lahore Campus, in his message appreciated the efforts of researchers, Department of Pharmacy, and the respective team in BHC for technology commercialization. He said that CUI being the premier research university of Pakistan feels proud to collaborate with the local industry to realize technologies that have a wider socio-economic impact.

The Department of Pharmacy, CUI Lahore is offering admissions in Pharm D Programme in Fall 2020. The applicants are requested to apply following the instructions on the COMSATS Lahore Website.

Dr. Huma Rasheed is a prominent pharmacist and academician. She holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from Germany with a professional career spanning over 20 years. She had been working as a clinical pharmacist in the Children Hospital Lahore. Currently, she is working as an assistant professor in the Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, Lahore. Dr. Huma visited the Department of Pharmacy, CUI Lahore Campus on 27 th February 2020 to share her experience with the students of Pharmacy Department on the key role of a clinical pharmacist in the healthcare system.

A seminar entitled “Clinical Pharmacy Practice: A Global Approach in Today’s Health Care System” was organized by Department of Pharmacy, CUI Lahore Campus, on November 25, 2019. The invited speaker Maj. Dr. Sitaram Khadka, who is a Clinical and Hospital Pharmacist at Shree Birendra Military Hospital (Kathmandu, Nepal), and has worked with United Nations Organization (UNO) as well, acquainted Pharmacy students with the clinical and hospital aspects of the Pharmacy profession by sharing his experiences

B. A seminar entitled “Scope of Pharmacy Profession in Pakistan and Skills required to be a good Pharmacist” was organized by Department of Pharmacy, CUI Lahore Campus, on 5 November 2019. Dr. Tahir Mehmood Khan, the invited speaker who is Principal at The Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences (UVAS), Lahore acquainted Pharmacy students with different fields of the Pharmacy profession by sharing his experiences.

Mr. Osama Gorsi, a prominent pharmacist working in drug information center of The Children’s Hospital and The Institute of Child Health Lahore, visited Department of Pharmacy, CUI Lahore campus to deliver a seminar lecture on “Drug information center” on 8th September, 2019. Mr. Gorsi highlighted the key features and tools used in the running drug information center that can benefit the general public. He also expressed the desire to help establish a drug information center in CUI Lahore campus.
