The LSL Law and Policy Research Centre organized an educational visit to Central Jail Kot Lakhpat, Lahore, on 15 May 2026, to provide students with practical insight into Pakistan’s prison administration and correctional system. The delegation was accompanied by Sessions Judge (Rtd.) Mr. Sohaib Ahmed Rumi, whose engagement with prison officials added further depth to the experience.
The visit began with a detailed briefing by the Additional Superintendent, who explained procedures relating to prisoner admission, release, court production, and family visitation. Students were informed that the prison system has largely transitioned to computerized record management. Officials also highlighted welfare initiatives, including a recently signed Memorandum of Understanding with Punjab Bank enabling families to deposit funds for inmates’ daily-use necessities. Briefings were further provided regarding healthcare facilities, emergency response systems, and food management.
Students were subsequently taken to various sections of the prison, including vocational and industrial units, the library, gymnasium, hospital, dental ward, emergency unit, and the women’s section. Authorities explained that inmates are provided with vocational training, diploma courses, and rehabilitation opportunities through industries such as carpet weaving, carpentry, furniture production, and manufacturing units. The delegation also visited the gallows area, where officials outlined the legal and procedural requirements governing executions within the prison system.
Throughout the visit, Mr. Sohaib Ahmed Rumi actively engaged with prison authorities on matters relating to prison administration, inmate welfare, rehabilitation initiatives, and the operational challenges faced by correctional institutions, particularly overcrowding. The visit provided students with a meaningful understanding of the realities of prison management and the broader objectives of reformative justice within the criminal justice system.
Under the visionary leadership of Justice Nasira Iqbal, Principal of Lahore School of Law, interviews for the Summer Internship Program 2026 were successfully conducted for student placements with Pakistan’s leading law firms.
The interview panel comprised Mr. Sohaib Ahmed Rumi, Retired District and Sessions Judge; Mr. Haroon Latif Khan, Former Director General of Pakistan Railways; Mr. Asif Aqeel, Founder of the Center of Law and Justice; and Ms. Attika Rehman, Vice Principal of Lahore School of Law.
Through this flagship program, Lahore School of Law continues to bridge the gap between academic excellence and professional practice, equipping students with invaluable exposure to the country’s top law firms and preparing them to become the next generation of distinguished legal professionals.
After endless messages, random plans, and “let’s do it for real this time,” the group chat finally came to life, and somehow, it turned into one of the most memorable parts of their final year.
A transition from college gate to mountain trails, just a group of final year students trying to hold onto these moments a little longer.
