The research paper “The Effects of Low-intensity Blood Flow Restriction Training on Post-surgical ACL Reconstruction Recovery: A Randomized Controlled Trial” has been published in the Medical Journal of Dr. D.Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, a Scopus (Q4) indexed journal.

The study demonstrates that low-intensity blood flow restriction (BFR) training can significantly improve muscle strength and knee function following ACL reconstruction surgery compared to conventional high-intensity rehabilitation exercises. By using a specialized cuff to safely limit blood flow during exercise, the approach reduces pain while supporting faster and more comfortable recovery, offering a safer rehabilitation option for post-surgical patients.

#𝐒𝐮𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐨𝐫𝐔𝐧𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐲 researchers, in collaboration with Al Ain University, Institute of Applied Sciences and Technology, Monash University Malaysia and Jinan University, Guangzhou have developed a smart plant-based hydrogel that enables controlled drug release and improves the oral absorption of methotrexate (MTX) by 7 times.

Many medicines lose their effectiveness when taken by mouth because they are released too early or are poorly absorbed. To address this challenge, the research team designed a sulfhydryl-modified glucomannan hydrogel that protects the drug in the stomach and releases it gradually in the intestine, where absorption is most effective.

The hydrogel released less than 20% of the drug in stomach-like conditions (pH 1.2) but more than 85% in intestinal conditions (pH 7.4). Animal studies further confirmed a 7-fold increase in oral bioavailability, highlighting its potential to make oral drug delivery safer and more effective.

This innovation demonstrates how advanced biomaterials can improve drug delivery systems and pave the way for more efficient treatments for patients requiring long-term medication.
