🏜️ Hands-On Learning at Derawar Fort & Surrounding Landscape – Forestry Study Tour 🏜️
As part of the Department of Forestry, Kohat University of Science & Technology (KUST) student study tour, students visited the historic Derawar Fort, an iconic heritage site located in the Cholistan Desert. The visit provided valuable hands-on learning by exploring the interaction between cultural heritage and the surrounding arid ecosystem.
During the visit, students were guided by Mr. Riaz from the Forest Department, who shared insights about the local landscape, environmental conditions, and the significance of conserving natural resources within desert environments. Students also visited a fish farm, where they observed practical aspects of aquatic resource management and sustainable utilization practices.
The experience enhanced students’ understanding of heritage conservation, desert ecology, and practical field exposure, strengthening the connection between environmental knowledge and real-world applications.

🌿 Hands-On Learning at Lal Suhanra National Park – Forestry Study Tour 🌿
As part of the Department of Forestry, Kohat University of Science & Technology (KUST) student study tour, students visited Lal Suhanra National Park, gaining valuable field-based learning experience about protected area management and biodiversity conservation.
During the visit, Mr. Wajiullah, Forest Inspector, delivered an informative lecture and briefing on the national park, highlighting its ecological significance, flora and fauna diversity, and conservation strategies. Students also visited the nursery section, where Mr. Sohail (Nursery Supervisor) provided detailed insights into nursery management practices, plant propagation, and the role of nurseries in ecosystem restoration and afforestation programs.
The study tour further included a visit to the Black Buck Breeding Center, where Mr. Muhammad Usman, Wildlife Inspector, briefed students about wildlife conservation initiatives, breeding programs, and the importance of species protection within managed habitats.
This hands-on learning experience enhanced students’ practical understanding of forest management, wildlife conservation, and sustainable ecosystem practices, bridging academic knowledge with real-world field exposure.

🌵 Hands-On Learning at Cholistan Desert – Forestry Study Tour 🌵
Department of Forestry, KUST students explored the Cholistan Desert, gaining valuable hands-on exposure to arid land ecology and desert ecosystem dynamics.
The field visit provided practical insights into desert biodiversity, adaptive vegetation strategies, soil characteristics, and the ecological importance of arid landscapes under changing climatic conditions. Through direct observation and academic discussions, students examined desert flora and fauna, sustainable resource management approaches, and conservation challenges associated with fragile dry land ecosystems.
This experiential learning opportunity strengthened the connection between theoretical knowledge and field practice, enhancing students’ understanding of desert ecosystem management, climate resilience, and sustainable environmental planning.

🌱 Hands-On Learning at Kallar Kahar Wetlands – Forestry Study Tour Day 2 🌱
Activity 1 🌱
During the second day of the Forestry Department’s student study tour, students visited the Kallar Kahar Wetland ecosystem, gaining valuable field-based exposure to wetland ecology and ecosystem functions.
The visit enabled students to understand the ecological importance of wetlands as critical habitats supporting biodiversity, migratory avifauna, hydrological balance, and climate regulation. Through on-site observation and discussion, students examined wetland vegetation, ecological processes, and the role of wetlands in environmental sustainability and conservation planning.
This field experience strengthened the integration of theoretical concepts with practical learning, enhancing students’ academic understanding of wetland management and conservation strategies.

🌱 Hands-On Learning at Margalla Hills National Park– Forestry Study Tour Day 1 🌱
On the first day of the Forestry Department’s student study tour, our students had an enriching experience at Margalla Hills National Park Islamabad.
At the Information Center, Mr. Umer Bilal, Assistant Director Information & Outreach, delivered an informative presentation, enhancing students’ understanding of the park’s ecology, conservation efforts, and biodiversity.
Students also explored the park’s natural landscapes Flora and Faunaunder the guidance of Mr. Zaheer Mirza, gaining firsthand exposure to forest management practices and wildlife observation.
This study tour was conducted under the supervision of Mr. Shahab Ali Khan, Mr. Jawad Ali, and Mr. Syed Asad Abbas, providing students with practical insights into forest ecosystems and fostering a deeper appreciation for Pakistan’s natural heritage.
