Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar dies at task in London.
Today, on 4th of January 1931, Maulana Mohammad Ali JAUHAR (R. A) passed away. Frequent jail sentences, his diabetes and lack of proper nutrition while jailed, made him very sick. Despite his failing health, he wanted to attend the first Round Table Conference held in London in 1930. Before his death he left message for his people.
According to The New York Times, when he arrived in England he left a prophetic message; he said, ‘my wife who doesn’t speak a word of any foreign language lifted her veil for the first time to come with me on this trip to nurse me or to burry me.’ He died of stroke while attending the Round Table Conference in London at the age of 53. He wanted unity of his people. Before his death he was able to draft his last message, he listened while it was read to him. He approved it and said final farewell to his wife and brother Shaukat Ali.
Capt. Wedgwood Benn, Secretary of State of India issued a sorrow statement on his death, paying tribute to his courage to come to England being ill. He said, ‘Maulana Mohammad Ali courted death knowing he was a dying man, he gladly cross the world in service of India. A great Musulman, a great patriot, a great prophet of Humanity, he deliberately gave his life in the cause of reconciliation. We mourn with his relatives, and offer tender sympathy to his devoted wife, widowed in a strange land.’
