Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad, Chairman Higher Education Commission Islamabad, paid a visit to Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology and Skill Development, Khairpur on April 23, 2026.
He was warmly welcomed by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar . In his welcome address, Prof. Mahar highlighted the pivotal role of the HEC in transforming the higher education landscape of Pakistan by promoting quality education, fostering research, and strengthening institutional capacity across the country. He further noted that Prof. Akhter’s visionary leadership continues to guide universities toward innovation, excellence, and relevance in a rapidly evolving global environment.
During the visit, the Chairman HEC inaugurated the University’s newly constructed Multipurpose Hall and a real-time Air Quality Monitoring System. This marks a significant technological advancement and is among the first such initiatives introduced in public sector universities of Sindh. The facilities are expected to greatly enhance academic, co-curricular, and professional activities on campus.
Prof. Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhter also witnessed a technical exhibition organized by the University, where students from various departments showcased their innovative projects. The students demonstrated their work, reflecting the institution’s strong emphasis on practical learning and skill development.
As part of the visit, the Chairman HEC planted a tree sapling at the new campus. Among others present on the occasion were Prof. Dr. Saleem Raza Samo, Vice Chancellor QUEST Nawabshah, and Mr. Suleman Ahmed, Regional Director HEC Sindh.
The Chairman HEC appreciated the efforts of the Vice Chancellor, faculty, and students in promoting technical education and encouraging innovation. He expressed satisfaction over the quality of the projects displayed and urged students and faculty to continue striving for excellence. He also emphasized the need to further refine and strengthen these projects to make them commercially viable and competitive in international markets.
The Vice Chancellor briefed the Chairman HEC on the University’s academic programs, future plans, and ongoing development initiatives.

BBS-UTech Inaugurates Khairpur Air Quality Monitoring Station, Hosts Technical Seminar on Real-Time Pollution Monitoring:

Benazir Bhutto Shaheed University of Technology & Skill Development, Khairpur organized a technical seminar titled “Real-Time Air Pollution Monitoring, Source Profiling & Predictive Modelling in a Resource-Constrained Rural Region” and inaugurated the Khairpur Air Quality Monitoring Station on Thursday March 5, 2026.

The event commenced with the inauguration of the Air Quality Monitoring Station at the Smart Classroom, where the facility was formally unveiled in the presence of Mr. Altaf Ahmed Chachar Deputy Commissioner Khairpur, along with the faculty members, researchers and distinguished participants. The monitoring station has been developed to generate real-time data on air quality and support research on pollution trends and predictive environmental modelling in the region.

Following the inauguration, a technical seminar was organized.
Prof. Dr. Rasool Bux Mahar, Vice Chancellor delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of technology-driven environmental monitoring and the university’s commitment to advancing research that supports evidence-based policy and sustainable development.

Engr. Arif Hussain Lakho, Lecturer Department of Electronics and Principal Investigator of the Sindh AirQ Project, presented an overview of the Khairpur Air Quality Monitoring Station and explained its technical features, data acquisition mechanisms, and potential for supporting research and environmental management in rural and resource-constrained settings.

Addressing the gathering, Mr. Altaf Ahmed Chachar, Deputy Commissioner Khairpur, appreciated the initiative taken by the university and emphasized the importance of reliable environmental data for informed planning and public awareness regarding air quality and environmental protection.

The seminar was organized by the Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability Centre (CCESC) of BBS-UTech in collaboration with student societies including the Green Youth Movement (GYM) Club, Young Peace & Development Corps (YPDC), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Chapter.

At the conclusion of the program, Mr. Abdul Shakoor, Focal Person, Climate Change & Environmental Sustainability Centre (CCESC), presented the vote of thanks, acknowledging the contributions of the Deputy Commissioner, university leadership, collaborating societies, faculty members, and students for making the event successful.
