Department of Applied Linguistics at Govt. College University Faisalabad The Department of English was established in the year 1988. Later it introduced postgraduate program.

In the beginning it offered faculty to teach English Compulsory to the students of other departments for B.A B.Sc programs. Due to the scarcity of accommodation, the Department used to run the postgraduate (M.A) classes in the evening but now as the Department has entered into the most dynamic phase of its young history by offering, from this academic year, a Masters degree program (M.A) in the morning shift whereas, we are two year old in our B.A hons’ (Four year) program in English literature and linguistics (Morning), These programs will meet not only the longstanding national requirements to streamline education within the country but also measure up to bring its degree at par with the international standards. The program is offered under semester system, designed to achieve a rational synthesis of its major and minor components, making of course it possible for students to explore more deeply with in the major areas. The students, after successfully completing the B.A (Four year) program, will be eligible for admission to M.A English literature and M.Sc Applied linguistics programs of two year duration as per international practice: This will be in addition to making them being eligible for other Master programs like, Economics, Psychology, Business Administration and Mass communication etc, thus the overall objective of the program is to enable students to acquire a superior level of linguistics, literary, communicative, cultural and humanistic competence broad enough to make them operate in diverse walks of life quite efficiently

The Department of English Literature is one of the leading departments of the University with a rich history of excellence, quality teaching and research spanning over decades. The Department of English seeks to provide the diverse needs of its students by offering them the opportunity to read widely understand and enjoy what they read, and to express themselves both orally and in writing with ease, force and clarity. The English Department maintains its strong commitment to traditional areas of study, while also supporting groundbreaking research and teaching in new and interdisciplinary approaches to literary studies.

We are one of the largest departments in the university with 30 faculty members. The Department of English caters for the needs of other departments related to English language, hence maintaining close ties with other departments. English Department teaches across the whole range of English literature and language studies. Our aim is to provide students with a stimulating environment in which to develop skills in all areas of English.
