What makes MBBS soo difficult?

Update on Today’s Meeting with the VC and Registrar

Dear all,

We would like to share the outcomes of our meeting with the administration earlier today. While the discussion was challenging, we were able to secure several important commitments and clarifications:

1. Attendance Policy

The 85% attendance requirement is being strictly enforced as it is a PMDC directive. The administration is not in a position to relax this.

However, a leave policy similar to DIMC will now be implemented at DMC. Students will be able to apply for leave in cases of sickness or unavoidable circumstances, and once approved, this leave will not count against attendance.

The existing 15% allowance for absences is meant strictly for emergencies, not leisure.

At the same time, the administration informed us that they are actively working with PMDC to reduce the year-end passing mark percentage from the current 65% to around 50–55%. They've said that since the focus is on reducing this amount, the attendance percentage will not be reduced. The matter as to whether the passing percentage will affect only the batches coming after the change was dismissed saying that even PMDC themselves are unable to come into a conclusion on that matter.

2. Emergency SOP

A formal SOP for emergencies is being developed and will be published on the website once finalized.

This will cover provisions such as arranging accommodation in lecture halls, extending canteen hours till 7 pm, providing food coupons, and other necessary support measures.

3. Drainage Issue

The administration has acknowledged the water accumulation problem on campus and assured that it will be resolved on a priority basis.

4. Inquiry into Tuesday’s Events

A thorough inquiry is being initiated into the mismanagement and miscommunication that occurred last week.

The administration has admitted that certain actions (such as locking the library and GCR) were mishandled. The findings of the inquiry will be published once completed.

5. Other Issues Raised

Evening & Night Shifts: No special facilities will be provided for students during these hours. However, students are entitled to use the same facilities as house officers. If access is denied, it should be reported to the administration.

BCR Functionality: The administration assured us that steps will be taken to make the BCR more functional.

Lecture Halls: These will not be opened when classes are not in session. As an alternative, the administration agreed to work on providing shaded areas on the ground.

Water Dispensers: The request for water dispensers was declined, with the administration advising students to bring their own water bottles from home.

6. Context of Current Discussions

Much of the meeting inevitably circled back to the recent student death, which has attracted significant media attention. The administration is cautious about information being circulated publicly and is treating unverified claims as defamation.

While this matter is beyond our direct control, it is influencing how the administration approaches all issues at present.
