The Institute of Marine Science (IMS), University of Karachi, in collaboration with the Karachi Physics Society, successfully organized a hands-on workshop on “Mendeley Reference Manager: Automating Literature Review & Citations” at the Smart Conference Room, Department of Physics, University of Karachi on August 31, 2026.

The workshop was very well executed by Dr. Muhammad Farrakh Nawaz, Director, Instiute of Environmental Studies whose practical and engaging approach made the session highly useful for the participants. Faculty members, graduate and postgraduate students actively participated and gained hands-on experience in managing references, organizing literature, and improving their research workflow. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Naeem Khan, Director ORIC and Prof. Dr. Intikhab Ulfat, Chairman, Department of Physics graced the event and encourage this research-oriented initiative.

It was a productive and engaging session, with valuable learning, meaningful interaction, and a great response from the participants.

IMS looks forward to organizing more such capacity-building activities for students and researchers.

An interactive session “From Idea to Entrepreneurship” was organized by Centre of Excellence for Women’s Studies, University of Karachi in collaboration with Wafi Energy Pakistan Limited.

Mr. Imran Azim, Manager Training and Development from Wafi Tameer shared the details of 13th Tameer Awards and the application process. Exploring from ideas he guided students how to pitch their ideas in categories of clean energy solution, empowering women, technology innovation, transportation and mobility, circular economy and bright ideas. He also encouraged students to apply for the awards and win prizes.

The session coordinator Dr Shagufta Nasreen motivated students to break the barrier of hesitation and join the digitized economy with minimum investment, flexible work hours and broader scope of business and marketing.

The Faculty members of Women's Studies and students of Women's Studies, Social Work, Mathematics & Sociology attended the session.

The Department of Pharmacology successfully organized the 1st Pre-Conference Workshop in connection with 2nd ICPAS 2026, entitled “Musculoskeletal Health and Posture,” on 24th August 2026.

Doctors of Physiotherapy from the UoK Physiotherapy Unit highlighted the importance of muscle health and proper posture in the daily routines of students and faculty members.

They demonstrated simple exercises and practical strategies to maintain good posture and prevent posture-related injuries and health problems.

The session was informative, interactive, and highly beneficial for all participants.
