The Institute of Environmental Studies (IES), University of Karachi proudly recognizes the remarkable achievements of Ms. Sadia Tariq, a distinguished environmental professional and Ph.D. Scholar at IES.
Ms. Tariq serves as Assistant Director – Climate Change Adaptation at the Pakistan Red Crescent Society (Sindh), where she is leading climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction initiatives, coordinating government bodies, UN agencies, and humanitarian partners to strengthen resilience programming for vulnerable communities across the province. Her visionary leadership is contributing significantly to building a more climate-resilient Sindh.
Currently pursuing her Ph.D. at the Institute of Environmental Studies, University of Karachi, her research focuses on climate change and coastal communities, examining pathways to strengthen resilience among Pakistan's most climate-exposed populations. She previously completed her MS in Energy and Environment from Hamdard University, graduating with a Gold Medal.
With more than a decade of professional experience, Ms. Tariq has made outstanding contributions in climate change adaptation, nature-based solutions, disaster risk reduction, and capacity building. As part of Organizing team of Pakistan’s first-ever Climate Change Conference (2023), inaugurated by the President of Pakistan and concluded by the Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed HI (M) (Chairman PNSC), culminating in a joint climate resolution submitted to the President. She has been awarded as Environmental Expert by Rear Admiral Jawad Ahmed HI (M) (Chairman PNSC) and share the stage with DG Muhammad Hanif Khan (DG 2023–24, RID 3271 Pakistan), Rev. Dr. Nemoto (Senior Advisor, Religions for Peace Asia), Rev. Dr. Shinohara (Secretary General, Religions for Peace Asia), RI Director Muhammad Faiz Kidwai, and DGN Shakeel Kaim Khani. She is a published author of two books and research papers.
Ms. Tariq's commitment to service extends deeply into Rotary and Rotaract leadership. She currently serves as District Co-Chair – Environment, Rotary International District 3271 (2025–26), having previously served as District Chair – Climate Change & Sustainability (2023–24), District Secretariat Coordinator and Conference Co-Coordinator for HOPE CON 2024, and PDG A.A.M Mohsin Region Secretary. She is President of the Rotaract Club of Karachi Creators, having earlier served as its Advisor (2023–24) and, before that, as District Chair – Environmental Services and District Environment and Road Safety Chair with the Rotaract Club of Karachi Royal (2017).
Her contributions have earned wide recognition at the national and provincial level, including the National Youth Achievement Award – Environmental Scientist (2025), a Gold Medal in her MS in Energy and Environment, and the Government of Sindh's Platinum Award for her work on wastewater management. In December 2023, she was honored as Environmentalist of the Climate Change Conference & Awards, presented by the Governor of Sindh under Rotary International District 3271 and Religions for Peace Pakistan, and in April 2024 she received multiple recognitions at HOPE CON 2024 for her roles as District Secretariat Coordinator, Conference Co-Coordinator, and Region Secretary. She was also presented a Shield of Honor at the "Beyond the Horizon" Joint Installation Ceremony and a Certificate of Achievement from Rotary International District 3271 for exceptional teamwork.
Her earlier career has been similarly decorated, with honors including the Sinf-e-Aahan Achievement Award (2022), the Inspirational Women Award from Womenza Pakistan (2022), the Appreciation Award at Pakistan's 1st Virtual Awards (2022), an Achievement Award from Sindh's Sports & Youth Affairs Department for her work on youth working women, Outstanding District Officer honors alongside Best Emerging Club and Outstanding International Service recognitions for RAC Karachi Creators (2020–21), the Inspiring Women Excellence Award from Rotary Club Karachi Avenue (2019–20), the Fakhr-e-Nojawaan Award for social welfare services in environment (2018), recognition at the International Women's Day Conference "Time is Now" (2018), and the Professional Achievement Award at the Youth Icon Awards (2017–18). Her early-career achievements include a Platinum Award of Rs. 150,000 from the Government of Sindh's Youth Skills Awards for her research on wastewater management, the Youth Achiever Award from Youth Parliament (2016), Excellence Awards at the Conference of Youth (COY) Pakistan on Climate Change and at the Youth Awareness Seminars on Environment Education "Beat the Heat Wave" in Karachi and Hyderabad (2016), an Excellence Award at the 2nd National Youth Forum (2015), recognition for her contribution to organizing the 3rd Pakistan Urban Forum (2015), and a Youth Achiever Award in the Educationist category from the We Own Pakistan Youth Convention.
