Education is undeniably a vital pillar of a child's development, but as parents and educators, we must not overlook the equally significant role of friendship in shaping their overall well-being. Recently, I had an eye-opening experience during a visit to my children's , The EduCaTor SchOol (gulshan-e-maymar campus) a renowned educational in , , which compelled me to reflect on the importance of allowing kids to make and maintain friendships.

The reason for my visit was to avail the pick and drop services for my children, only to discover that they were soon to be transferred to a new campus near our home. Concerned about the impact of such a transition on my children's mental state, I expressed my worries to the campus head. To my surprise, the response was that the school discouraged friendships within the campus and believed in shuffling students regularly, claiming that friendship had no bearing on education.

This response left me astonished. How could an institution that prided itself on providing quality education overlook the invaluable benefits of friendships in a child's life? Friendships are more than just a social construct; they play a crucial role in a child's growth and success.

It is essential for parents and schools to recognize that education alone accounts for only 30% of a child's success. The remaining 70% is derived from the qualities and skills developed through social interactions, including friendships. Studies have shown that individuals with vast networks of friends tend to be more successful in their lives.

In the real world, friends act as "parchis" (referrals) that open doors to opportunities and experiences. Therefore, it is crucial to encourage children to develop strong social networks. While education equips them with knowledge, friendships provide a support system that fosters confidence, emotional well-being, and resilience.

We must strike a balance between focusing on academic excellence and fostering social skills. Unfortunately, our current approach often neglects healthy activities such as sports and friendly gatherings, leading to rising levels of anxiety and depression among our youth.

As parents, it is essential to allow our children to socialize and interact with others freely, while also monitoring their activities to ensure they are in safe and positive environments. Social networking, in the true sense, is a skill that should be nurtured from an early age.

Research consistently supports the health benefits of friendships. Studies indicate that those who have strong social connections experience reduced stress, improved mental health, and even enhanced cognitive function.

In conclusion, education and friendship are not mutually exclusive but rather two sides of the same coin. As parents and educators, we must work together to empower our children academically while fostering the social skills they need for a fulfilling and successful life.
