The culmination event of the third iteration of the Civic Club Pilot Project brought together Headteachers, teachers, and students from 10 participating schools across Karachi’s Korangi district.

The event provided a platform for participating schools to reflect on their experiences throughout the project, sharing key learnings, challenges, and outcomes. Students highlighted the impact of Civic Clubs within their schools and communities, and reflected on their own learning and development through the initiative.

The event marked the close of this project cycle, capturing key insights and experiences to inform future implementation and scale. We extend our sincere gratitude to Dr.Fouzia Khan and the School Education and Literacy Department Government of Sindh for their continued support. We also thank the District Education Office Korangi, particularly Ms. Afshan Naz, Deputy District Education Officer, for gracing the event and for their valuable support throughout the project.

We commend all participating schools for their sustained engagement and commitment throughout the program. Congratulations to GGSS Block V for securing the Top Scorer position, and to GGSS Green Town for earning the Runner-Up position.

Phase 2 of the Civic Club Pilot Project, funded by the Institute of International Education, and implemented by Hyphen Resource Centre in collaboration with Habib University and Valeem Online, concluded on February 25th. The project established Civic Clubs in 28 public schools across Karachi with the dual aim of raising awareness about climate change and promoting civic engagement.

The event provided a comprehensive overview of the project’s goals, key milestones achieved by the clubs, and the diverse activities conducted throughout the year. Organized as an interactive session, it engaged students and teachers in collectively identifying the challenges faced, and brainstorming strategies to address them. Participants also shared feedback on how to improve the initiative for the next phase, starting in April 2025.

As part of the recognition segment, the Civic Club of GBLSS Union was awarded a cash prize as the winner of the Winter Challenge, and all participating schools received certificates for their contributions to the Civic Club Pilot Program.

The event was attended by Dr. Fouzia Khan, Chief Executive Advisor and Additional Secretary (Academic and Training), SELD, Government of Sindh, who engaged with students and teachers, encouraging them to participate meaningfully, use their time effectively, and address challenges in civic engagement. Ms Afshan Naz, Deputy DEO of Korangi district was also present and highlighted the importance of district-level cooperation and emphasized the need for more schools to take part in such initiatives.
