Asaathi Beej is more than the beginning of a new year; it is a celebration of rain, renewal, hope, and new life on the land of Kutch.
Observed on the second day of the bright fortnight of the month of Ashadh, this occasion has deep significance for Kutch, a land where the arrival of the monsoon has traditionally marked a season of hope, prosperity, and new beginnings.
According to a widely cherished folk tradition, the celebration of Asaathi Beej as the Kutchi New Year is also associated with the legendary ruler Lakho Phulani.
