DEBATE REDEFINED
Nothing screams “inter school event” louder than a good old debate. Debates have always provided students the opportunity to test their own perceptions, to defy societies’ paradigms and to develop confidence. For centuries schools have followed a roughly similar style of Debating; however we at Generation’s have undertook the job to redefine the conventional parliamentary style of Debate, hence the name, “Debate Redefined”. Classic parliamentary Debates are based on the British Parliament, where the two groups debating against one another are referred to as the Proposition and the Opposition. Each delegate from the two groups presents their speech in duration of five to seven minutes. These speeches are usually mediated by the Chairperson of the House. Questions or Points of Information are encouraged and may be asked during the course of a speech. We at CODE have decided to deviate slightly from this traditional style in our quest to redefine the debate and have explained the format of our debate extensively in the following pages. Dramatic Dialogue
We believe that the stern and competitive ambiance of a debate needs to be balanced by the grace and charm of a literary performance. The Dramatic Dialogue aims to develop in the participants the appreciation for and the skill to eloquently deliver the masterpieces of contemporary and classical English and Urdu Literature. Dialogues originated from classical Greek and Indian Literature, in particular the ancient art of rhetoric. In our event, each team will comprise of two participants delivering an English dialogue and two delivering an Urdu dialogue. Dramatic Dialogues are usually original pieces written by the speaker, however in this case, we choose to redefine the event by inducting participants to perform famous pieces from revered authors and poets.
